umm... well that's not good.
Comment/answer of the year. You always give me a good laugh John.Check the area where the ground/power wires are. Sometimes, it is possible for a few strands of wire to be touching somthing else, and keep a little spark going. Check that, and well go from there.
Well know Dave this is one of those things that sorta bugs me I guess... This problem CLEARLY has something to do with the new equipment in the car. Because it didn't smell before and now that the amp finally is powering up it does... There are only a few things to check, ya know
I honestly feel that 'mr_grand_prix' should have just taken this one to the shop to have it installed for him. That's just my humble opinion. Just from the questions he's been asking. Oh and its nothing against him, but to be asking some of the questions he's been asking here the last few days leads me to beleave that he has never done anything like this before. Not that someone can't learn but I'm guessing by reading his posts that not much research was done before hand. Like reading how to properly install a HU, AMP, and speakers. Be it here or anywhere else. Heck an good salesman at the shop he got the amp from should have been able to tell him how to do that. Not to mention his sister works for BB and got him a deal on it...
Regardless of all that, it has to be something to do with the way its installed or the products itself....

^ I agree. Could be something mis-wired and the system hasn't been used long enough or at high enough power levels to actually catch fire yet. Might be as simple as a loose connection on a power or ground wire (gets hot because of the high resistance) or speakers wired wrong or grounded somewhere. Hard to troubleshoot over the 'net.
There is the less probable option that it's a bad piece of equipment. Maybe the QA guy at the Amp factory left his twinkie wrapper inside the amp and it's slowly melting over the power transistors.

It can.
Its nothing against him. Honestly I love the fact that he at least tried/is trying and has the wisdom enough just to ask and not just plug junk in and "hope" that it works. Its just some of the things he needs help with really can't be diagnosed over the net... A professional should really take a quick look at it just to be safe. It could be nothing, but it could be a short that has the potential to be something very bad too.
It should just get checked out, if for no other reason just to reassure him that its right or that it needs to be adjusted here or there. Piece of mind, ya know... goes a long way.
