Wire Short -- Suggestions/Info needed
As a great christmas present, my vehicle gave me a few headaches. Either the radio or the ACC socket wire shorted out, or both. From the plug at the center of the dash, all the way back to the fuse box, the insulation completely melted off of two wires (and those 2 things are not working). After about 8 hours today, I was able to run new wire from the box to the plug, but the radio and cigarette lighter still get no power.
At this point, I am not too concerned about the stock wiring, as its been more than a headache. I just want to be able to get power to my cd player. I have an Alpine CDA9813 (5 years old), but it already required its own ground, so I just need power (I assume, please chime in if something else is required to power it on).
The real problem is finding a source which can handle the load of the cd player and will turn off with the car.
Merry Christmas everyone, any help is greatly appreciated.

If anyone should have this same problem. there is an accessory wire in the center console. In a MY00, there was a spare plug with wires to it. The plug was green. Not sure what its intended for, it wasn't plugged into anything on my car.
