AEM EMS new user
Don't bite my head off for a possible stupid question. I bought an AEM EMS with an NA base tune running the exact same mods I have. Is it safe to install it without it running like garbage? Or should I just be patient and wait for the tuner to do it?
If it's exactly the same mods and you're willing to learn a bit about the AEM so that you can look at datalogs to make sure that it's ok, then go for it. Often, someone else's base map will work very well with minimal tweaking required. However, that isn't always the case and you need the ability to make sure it's okay and do minor edits before you extensively drive around on it.

make sure you sync the timing before driving it...don't need a fancy timing light (connect it to the coilpack harness closest to the firewall). just lock it at +5deg adv on AEM tuner and adjust it to line up perfectly with the red line on the crank pulley.
i would personally not use the AEM unless you really needed to. you can attempt loading the basemap and perform the timing sync/TPS calibration - i have yet to see a tuner actually do the timing sync on a complete EMS tune job.
