I also have been thinking about this some, Im between aem and kpro. My thoughts are that kpro doesn't have the start up issues or anything like the aem. (from what I read)

I'm in ky so we have no emitions what so ever
i wll preach this over and over every time i see that statement, AEM EMS WILL STARTUP AND IDLE FINE WITH PROPER TUNING.

its not fair to say you dont want aem becuase it has start up / idle issues. its fair to say i dont want it becuase it needs to be tuned to startup/idle properly.

that being said, aem ems is a very robust, fairly easy to use, great solution for people that want standalone and dont have to worry about emmissions. hell, i tuned my startup/idle map mylself, and it fires right up in weather down to 40 degrees. cold starts and hot starts, i have never had a problem.

AEM Tuner question: Is it true that this AEM is an old GEMS EMS? If true it´s really good stuff.

If youre worried about cost, them get an AEM series 2 and go see Mase. Just know that the AEM you will lose OBD2 code scanning and the immobilizer wont work, so you WILL want a good after marked alarm. I know a great installer in florida, and since miami is probably one of the worst places for s2k thieft atm, you really should do it.

ok now my question is what about under 40? say it's winter and it's 15 degrees outside, would the car start up and run as well as when you tuned it during the summer when it was 90 outside? I don't know much but from what i read the kpro is basicly a piggy back that can do change everything if needed. So with kpro you still have the start up during cold/hot settings from honda. Which I'm sure honda spent millions of dollars developing thier ecu.

Dude if it got down to 15 in south Florida I could tune it to start just fine. But honestly if it got that cold down here I would drive my tahoe And store the s for the winter.

But to answer ur question yes the aem cAn be tuned to cold start in 15 degree weather. The coldest it got here was 37ish last dec and my s2k kicked over and fired right up. Download the aempro software and look at it. There's assloads of shit to tweak for stArt up and enrichment warmup.

holy crap thanks guys for all replies i didn't know it was that complicated lol i learn a lot on this post so far this is what i got:

AEM is cheaper $1350 (best price so far i found) but i see that it has a star up problem, but then if we have a good shop that it's knowledgeable you won't have that problem, i also went to AEM site and version 2 says (AEM's new Series 2 complete engine control system that plugs into the factory harness and uses the factory sensors) so this means that this issue have been taking care off.
Also i didn't know anything about the OBD2 code scanning i do have a pretty good alarm and i can upgrade it to a better one if need it.

Anything else i'm missing?
Kpro is around $1750 vs AEM $1350 now does it means that i will need to add or make any other additional expense if i go AEM? if not then AEM will be the best way to go, that will save me $400 bucks unless i can find a better deal on Kpro

Again thanks to everyone for helping i was so clueless on this area

One more thing i just notice, there is a AEM with UEGO for $1450 ,AEM FIC (Fuel Ignition Controller) for $398 and the AEM Series 2 for $1350

is there anything i need to know about this or just go for the AEM Series 2?

i personally would buy a used 1052U, that has the built in wideband and can be found for around 1k shipped.

if you go kpro, you need about 200-300 bucks worth of sensors as well, dont forget that part.

tuning between the two, are pretty much teh same. i wouldnt hate on kpro for that. kpro allows for chance to pass emmissions, thats a huge plus for some guys. i think the reason people say kpro is better at startup is the hondata guys have more or less copied the stock tune, startup tables, whatnots, so theres really not much tuning needed to make that work at all. aem ems, well, its a basemap for a reason, but if your tuner doesnt suck, it will be fine.

i cant say enough good words about mase. he is quick, efficient, methodical, and gets sick results.

Hondata K-pro and Aem Ems 2nd gen in that order. Yes, for k-pro, you need original sensors. However, you maintain honda reliability while having an user friendly program. For both setups, you need a wideband o2 sensor.

Consider hondata for maximum support since they support this forum.
