one suggestion I heard that made a lot of sense was to log the knock sensor on really conservative timing and race gas. that should give you an absolutly knock free run to use as a reference point for what the voltage should be. that way if the knock sensor is getting confused by something like an open wastegate like Soul Coughing mentioned, you'll know by the log. then if you start to tune the motor and get knock voltage spikes way above that baseline log then most likely you're getting detonation and need to play with the timing, fuel, or spark plugs.
