Go tell that to the couple of motors that had spring failure. F20 / 22 don't like 2step. YMMV, good luck

i got a question, when i had mine first setup, it would run lean while "2 steppin" like 17:1. then i lowered the ignition cut closer to the ignition retard, and it richened up to around 13:1 while "2 steppin". anyone else noticed this?

I've mentioned this before and figure I should mention it again before everyone goes out and tries this, by using the 2step you run the risk of dropping a valve due to spring failure. Its happened on a few motors already.

You want fireballs aka 2step(since this probably the biggest reason for most people), you'll need a upgraded valvetrain otherwise your on borrowed time.
this is why i tell people if you want 2step in any car, a upgrade is a must if you dont want to mess anything up.

Good thing inlinepro hooked up my upgrade valvetrain ahaha.

I have seen cars with 2step setup w/ stock head mess up and well.. its not pretty and costly.

could this have been an ap1 problem as they had the crappy retainers?

s2000's have retainer problems from the get go.

like i said, if it broke on the 2step you had problems from the beginning

Interesting. What if you had it set on the softest 2step at a lower rpm? For example I have mine set for 5500 on the softest setting. That would be like bouncing off the rev limiter, only at a lower RPM, might even be a bit slower too

Are you on stock valvetrain? If so, i would advise against running the 2step unless you dont mind dropping a valve down the road. Just a warning.

Yes, I still have stock valve train. But isnt it just the retainers that are bad on S2000s? I know it was said a few posts ago, but I thought the springs were not the issue.

The stock springs and valves can be an issue over time if you try to rev much higher than the stock rev limiter with the added heat from boost and high power but the main concern is the retainers cracking and dropping valves. Running a 2step on the stock valvetrain will, over time, prematurally wear on those parts and when you least expect it, a valve drops.
