For what it cost to get that kind of power, it's cheaper to buy it. Check out the new RS4. My kid has one and it eats me and has a warranty. It will also chew up a z06 and handle better or as well as either on the track whether it's twisties or in a straight line.

So an RS4 will "chew up" a Z06 even though it gives up about 125 HP and 300 or so pounds? While it's a very capable car, that's just ludicrous. Obviously it would kill mine in the twisties and it would likely be a good fight down the 1/4, but my car is older than I am. A Z06 is made for the track, and the R8 would be very hard pressed to beat it in either venue, let alone the RS4. Please pass whatever you're smoking over here...
Just to amend my previous post, looking at other sources show that the HP difference is only 85 (420 vs. 505), but the weight differential is almost 600 pounds.

the S4 is 420HP? damn
The RS4. I was stuck in a jumble of new and old numbers in the first post. Apparently the newer model got a nice power boost, but also porked up a bit.
Just to echo what a few others have said, a 500+ hp S isn't always as glamourous as it might seem. Yes it is nice to drive around knowing you can take 99% of the cars on the road but there are some definate drawbacks as well:
1) Stuff does break. Be prepared to deal w/ that on a farily regular basis. The days of going out to your car every day, putting in the key, and knowing all will be perfect w/ it day in, day out, are over.
2) Even w/ all that power, you just can't use it that regularly. The consequences for getting caught street racing have just gotten too severe.
3) Driving it is not always a relaxing experience. You really really have to pay attention. I can break my backend lose at 70 mph in a straight-line w/o even trying. With the handling characteristics and weight of the S, if you try that in a corner, or wet roads, or just aren't paying attention, you will end up off the road at some point.
I will add something to this thread, which I guess will disagree with what Joey is saying, but here goes...
There is always something faster than you. You can have a 500hp s2000, and still get RAPED by a Z06 with a few little bolt ons.
Just like in the jungle, you have to know where you stand, and face it, the s2000 is NOT the fastest car in the world, and you'll never make one that is.
You will still get smoked by Supras, vettes, vipers, etc, so there is almost no point. When I get my S5, I might slap a twin turbo on it...then, someone with a 600hp s2000 might lose to me, and think "oh, 600hp isn't enough."
Maybe it's because I'm a bit older, maybe it's because I spend a lot of time on exotic car forums, but I've learned that speed, after a point, just doesn't matter.
Learn to enjoy the car for what it is. When I was going for my tune, I left NYC at 6am, and drove top down, at 65mph on cruise up to NH. Not one car on the road, music blasting, wind in your face...it was great. Enjoy the car for what it is, not what it could be. The s2000 will never be a 911TT killer, so there is no point of wasting money trying to do it.
