I would agree, I think I may lean to the 4.44 though, so no help will come from spings and lowering tire pressure.
Yes springs and tire pressure both play a significant roll in gaining traction, if you want to turn your s2k into a drag car and sacrifice daily driving performance then put on the softest rear springs you can find, the idea is to transfer as much weight to the rear tires as possible. Running thin walled taller profile tires with reduced tire pressures somewhere in the 12 to 20psi range will also gain you much traction over a typical low pro street performance wheel/tire package. 4.44 are a great choice for a s2k if you want some help getting out of the hole and better response in each gear without sacrificing to much forward propulsion. 4.44's will get you to a perfect 60mph in second gear with an Ap1 if maximizing your 0-60 time is important to you. They will also get you much closer to the sweet spot in 4th gear in the 1/4 in your power range better then really any other gear choice.

I enjoy 4.30's myself but have run 4.44 when N/A and found them to be very good for that power level. If you were making anymore power at all I would say pick up some 4.30 Mazda gears/or go back to stock 4.10. You can always try what I have done which is cheat sort of speak and run a different overall wheel tire size if you want to experiment and don't want to blow a big wad with every gear change. Check the gear calculator floating around and run simulations to cross reference what tire size equals a rear end gear etc. If you really want to maximize your cars potential in the 1/4 you need to understand the basics. This is a good place to start. The basic idea is to pick the trans gear best mated to your power level you can pull, you want to finish at close to redline as possible to maximize, 4th gear for example, then find a rear end gear to fine tune this power level vs rpm in your gear choice. Hope that makes sense. Once you start paying attention to what gear your in and at what rpm at the finish, you then have a basis for which direction you need to go to maximize your trap speed/time at your power level. Doesn't do you any good if you cant get traction of drive the car properly however.
