then do a compression test and leak down test. that will pretty much tell you everything you need to know.

how much power do you want to make?
Hoping for around 500whp on 93 octane fuel. Im running the Ultimate Racing kit and was dyno'd at 370whp 244ft/lbs on 9psi with stock exhaust and test pipe. I now have upgraded exhaust and am looking to lower the compression to allow for more boost.

I am a bit caught up in a twist that you guys might find a bit ridiculous. My car is MY2000 and I currently have a AP2(2004) engine in my car with the stated above 370whp. Redline is currently 8500 but I would like to build the AP1 engine to retain my 9000rpm once again. I know the AP2 has better TQ in the lower rpm range but this is where am at right now...I want to have one engine while I build the other basically, and currently my budget isnt allowing for a full engine build at the moment so I wanted to start off with a headgasket & headstuds.

Feel free to chime in on your opinion between the two possible engine choices

I know im not trying to start rumours and like I said I still have to research the subject. But when I asked my tuner about FRM "compatable" pistons he said that they were not a good idea and it was just a marketing ploy...Not trying to start any rumours and dont want fiction to become fact because like I said I have yet to look into it further. However that was the response I was given and my tuner is very reputable and has tuned many turbo s2000s in the area.

I know that doing the headgasket would be much easier with the engine out of the bay but like I said I want to assure the engine is 100% before I start messing with it and have to chase a neverending problem!
Just a thought I had, go MAHLE, they make all the pistons for porsche's which are also frm... they are the ONLY manufacturer for FRM comp. pistonsI would trust, since they obviously have the right formula for the coating

Yay, GO MAHLE!!!

Just a shame they don't make a low compression piston for our application (unless things have changed recently).

Except that Porsches use Nikasil, which is a silica carbide powder entraped in nickel plating, not the same as FRM.
