Bigal, the only part of your post that I was addressing was the part I quoted. On the whole I agree with you, but I objected to the idea that the *car* "needs" more grunt.
Okay. My misunderstanding.

I love the car "as is". With that said, I would love to have more pull in the mid and low range. I don't mind playing with the gears, in fact, I enjoy it most of the time. I guess I could have said that in my opnion it needs more grunt, or maybe I would prefer more grunt. By no means do I mean to say that the car is insufficient.

People knock the engine for not having enough torque. From a numbers point of view they may be right. But they don't look at gearing and redline and how that can be used to optimize the little torque that exists. The astronomical redline makes it possible for us to multiply our torque to a great extent than all other cars.

I don't think this kit is going to make me shift any more or less. It's just going to make me have more fun in each particular gear. Most of my time is spent in 5th or 6th gear, cruising between 35-60 mph. That won't change. What will change is how fast I get up to my operating speeds

Autocrossing will be MUCH more fun now. I'll be able to leave the car in second and not worry about shifting. Or use first and second and perform smoky drifts exiting corners.

I don't think the kit will change my normal drving habits either. I agree also that the car will be even more fun with this kit. Frankly sometimes I do get lazy or don't feel like playing with the gears. I don't clame to be an expert driver so maybe that is the problem

Oh well, I for one think that this kit will make the car a lot more fun to drive. I have never driven a CT SC'd car so I don't really know what the difference is compared to stock. But I can imagine what a PD SC will do to the car. With the high redline, The car will pull much harder all the way up. Who wouldn't want that? I for one would love it.

My $.02

I'm almost always in the "boil the tires" mode when I autocross, and the only car I care about beating is Tripper Cook's R32 Skyline, but if I was serious about winning I'd go with the BRP in a heartbeat. Working the power band on autocross courses is NOT the way to quick laps, and second gear is the way to go if you want to turn consistent times, so a PD blower is perfect. All but two of our CCR Miata's have Jackson Racing superchargers, and it's really easy to turn competative times in the cars.

I've already got more autocross trophies than I know what to do with (several boxes full, stored away in one of our outbuildings), and now I find that I enjoy putting on a show more than tryhing to turn the best time. Everybody loves tire smoke and wild slides and spins, and I do my best to accomodate. I only get serious on those rare occasions when I feel that I need to prove to someone that I really can be competative in the car when I want to.

FWIW I think both you and Bigal are wrong about the SC not changing your driving habits. My Comptech adds very little below VTEC, but there is enough more between 4k and 6k that I now downshift less. I still go for VTEC when I want to go really fast, but the actual *need* for downshifts has been noticably reduced. I downshift less AND VTEC less, because it's needed less, and I bet it will be the same for you guys (only more so). But really, that is NOT a bad thing. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the small boost in power pre-VTEC, even though it isn't the reason I went FI.

You are probably right as far it changing my drving habits. I guess that will depend on how much torque can be delivered and when it comes on. I can't even imagine what the driving characteristics of the car will be so I guess it's crazy to say how I will drive.

They just got the throttle body done and on the car and were out testing it again today. They're talking about trying to shoot some video of the car against a stock S2k and a 220whp supercharged Miata to show the difference. Stay tuned.

I spoke with Brant at length today and grabbed the 10th and final beta spot

Suckas

I'll be driving down from central VA (370 miles) for the install when its my turn. It's way too early to have an exact date for the install. I figure the trip back will be perfect to break everything in. I'll check the belt when I get home and then run through a tank gas
