I agree that you don't need a built engine for moderate power. New Oem engines are getting scarce. If you can't get your hands on one then you need to have someone build you one if your motor is fried. That's what the op wanted with a few upgrades. Sounds simple enough but apparently it's getting harder to find anyone to trust to do it right.
New oem short blocks can be had for $3000 straight from Honda. So no they are not scarce.

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences there buddy.Im in pretty much the same position.

The reason I went for a built engine was because I like to do the job properly,Hearing Fernando at King's performance talk they are good for 1000 hp and 50.000 miles, obviously that can be taken with a pinch of salt but it is a way of future proofing an engine.......to a point if you intend running big power.

I wish you the best of luck, but if it's anything like me,you will get nothing apart from one response calling me and my tuner incompetent and myself being a cheapskate.

Really makes me sad reading these stories... hope you'll get your full refund (including expenses)... that seems the only right thing to do...

The build began in January 2014 and pay step by step during the process. We asked to follow the building process. It was very difficult to have pics and news but we understand Jason is very busy.
Because a time difference between USA and France, we discuss on Hangouts and email. He never told me he had to talk more by email than on a chat. We received the motor at the end of July 2014, approximatively 6 months for the process building.
And we have some doubts. We decided to check whether everything was properly assemble and here's what we found :

The claim began in February 2015 when we found somes problems. He says he's sorry through email I put you on the first page. He must take the cost of return to the USA but he says it's too expensive ! He wants to repair his mistake by coming to France, ok but how long ? It is already busy and he wants to rebuild the engine in France ?

During 4 months, we turn around and he told me to contact my carrier and send to him and advance fees.

Get the motor back to me and we'll get you a full refund once we can inspect the engine. My machine shop will be refunding shipping once they see it and verify that they screwed it up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I prepared the palet but I kept Engine mount, spark plugs, clutch and valve cover. I sent lots of pics of the pallet so that it can take cognizance of the packaging and see that i have sent everything except some parts that I could put together later.
Because time is too long, I understand that he wants to rebuild a new engine. But I'm selling the S2K ! It's time now to refund my money what I could never put in the car.

I received an email July 30th 2015.

Rudy,

After reviewing and checking the block and all parts with the machine shop we have concluded that there is nothing at all wrong with this engine.

I have included a link to the album with pictures and video from checking the deck with a dial indicator as well as a straight edge. Keep in mind that the block was designed with a 0.002-0.003" step on the sleeves which helps keep the headgasket sealed in racing applications.

https://goo.gl/photos/R4kWYjEYFNA8y8ZZ9

Bores were checked with the deck plate and found exactly our specified 0.0045" piston-wall clearance and less than 0.0002" runout.

After looking back at the pictures you sent me it appears that your shop was attempting to check the deck of the block with the piston at top dead center, the pistons on s2000 engines do normally stick out of the block slightly which will hold the straight edge off the deck.

I have pictures of checking the deck with the straight edge and a 0.001" feeler gauge. The straight edge was biting the feeler gauge at every point we inspected it at.

We also examined the RA (roughness average) of the deck of the block. Cometic and honda require the RA to be less than 50, we were seeing an average of 5-6 RA.

That being said I can refund you for the parts you have returned minus 15% restock fee. Our normal policy on this type of thing is no refunds at all, but due to shipping costs we will make an exception for you.

We did not receive the oil pump, clutch, engine mounts or spark plugs, we also can not re-use or re-sell the gaskets and the headstuds and timing chain tensioner can not be used/sold as new parts. Those will be credited at 50%.

Total Refund comes to $2648.67

We are a very small shop so a refund of this amount will take us approximately 30 days to process. We can wire transfer or send via paypal.

I have attached the original invoice as well as an excel sheet showing parts refunded.

https://goo.gl/photos/R4kWYjEYFNA8y8ZZ9

Wiseco Pistons $499,99
InlinePro rods $656,00
Acl Main bearings $71,58
acl rod bearings $59,29
acl thrust $5,98
supertech Block guard $95,00
arp headstud kit @ 50% $68,20
supertech valve spring kit $340,86
Timing chain $96,09
Timing chain tensioner @ 50% $76,65
core ap2 crank $450,00
core block $200,00
Core cylinder head $300,00
water pump housing/accessories $150,00
mishimotor thermostat $49,41

Total $3 119,05
less 15% restock fee $2 651,19

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No engine put in the car, i paid the return for inspection as saying the deal and he refund only 2600$ ! It's funny isn't it?

As an industry standard there are no refunds, I agreed to get him the refund but as I said we are a very small company and are working as hard as we can to get him his money back.
As an industry standard people get the parts and services that they order and pay for. My guess is that you are operating the business with very little capital and so you are waiting for some new business/cash flow to come in before you can actually pay out the refund. I mean we are in 2015 with electronic fund transfers. No refund should take 30+ days. That is a dangerous way to operate a business.
I'm ok with you but he sent me an email yesterday that i hadn't seen:

Rudy,

I'm still working on getting your refund together. As you know my shop is small with just 2 of us here. Our total monthly sales is only in the $20k usd range, a refund of almost $3k isnt possible with this with out selling this engine first. Give me another couple of weeks we have a prospective buyer on these parts. Remember you sent me back parts that are used, I can not sell these parts as new anymore unless it is sold as a complete engine build.

I dont want to speak on hangouts, email is better so we both have it documented.

I will refund your money, just like I was prepared to get on a plane and fly there with a new block, etc.

I stand behind my work and will get you the refund.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My question is : It's possible to sell non-compliant parts of this engine ?

In my position, i wait a refund money of all that i sent and never used :
- Wiseco Pistons (499$ + 260$ for the ceramic coated)
- Skunk2 Rods (656$ in the invoice for the Inline Pro, Skunk2 are about 350$)
- Core cylinder head (300$ + 1200$ for RLZ Portwork)
- Core block (200$ + 800$ for the sleeves + 900$ for blueprint and assembling). Who paid the new assembly with the correct rods and blueprint ?
- Core F22 Cranckshaft (450$)
- Total : 5265$
Add cost of return France -> USA: 2200$

They are a small shop and I've bee posting in mr. Pitts thread about horrible experiences and I have the same opinion as you about this shop especially if you're not in the area and overseas... STAY THE HELL AWAY! Dodgy service and even dodgier workmanship. The cover up of trying to help you is disguised with a seemingly concerned tone and questioning but soon followed by dismissal and blame. Not a good shop and if anyone is seriously considering going here, get ready to waste your money and have some headaches.

I feel bad for the original poster's experience and I'm feeling partially responsible for not posting up my bad experience with him a while ago and in hindsight, I should have been more reticent dealing with a guy who's email had Jdawg in it!

Thank you for sharing your experience here! I was consider buying their products, but I have changed my mind.
OP paid $8,500 for his engine and it had the wrong rods in it. Hope CNC will come through with a refund.

Reminds me of a story I head before about a guy buying a built supra motor, tearing it down and finding it did not have any of the parts claimed.

I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt, but once the seed of skepticism is planted, one can never have full trust. IE: Endyne from the old "D16 sohc vtec turbocharger kit" that we're still waiting for.
