I also am considering a SC for my 01 with 23k miles on it. Would my best bet be to have my local dealer do this? Would they get the SC themselves & warranty the work? Do they know what they are doing with a non-Honda product? What should I expect for total cost?

As you can see, I don't know much about this.
If you want the peace of mind of "some kind of warranty" that resembles what is covered under the Honda warranty, then you'll need to go with a Comptech kit that is installed by an "authorized" Comptech Honda/Acura dealer. Vortech has no such arrangement with Honda. As for if they know what they are doing, that depends on if they've done one before. I know for a fact that even an authorized Comptech dealer can make mistakes and can be very frustrated when they can't figure out what's wrong after the install. As for cost, I guess you'll need to talk to your dealer or get an idea from those who have done this and are willing to discuss it in a public forum. Vortech, on average, takes about 20 hours labour. Comptech takes much less time to do.

I guess you could ask Comptech. I'm not sure this is such a big deal as almost any Honda/Acura dealer can become an "authorized" Comptech installer.

My first visit to this site and I signed up immediately. Purchased a new 04 last year and planning on adding a Supercharger. Was going to ask about Comptech vs Vortech, but after reading all the threads I think my questions have been answered. Not decided, but will probably go Comptech & will post results. It now has just under 6K on the odo and I am ready for more power. Thanks to all who contributed info on the S/C debate.

One thing that i think is important to clarify is, that no matter what charger you choose. Honda will not warrenty your clutch and rear end after this charger is installed.(these are the 2 things that are most likly to break) .The only thing that Honda will warrenty is the charger itself and it's plumbing on the Comptec.
Vortec will warrenty the same as long as the install is done buy a perfessional Machanic.
I was thinking that my rear end was warrentied if honda did the install on my Vortec but honda refused to repair it cause of the charger(LSD'S AND FINAL GEARS ARE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE).
I perfer the Vortec personally but my friend has the Comptec also, and they are both great chargers.
I would not go by the warrenty when you choose between the 2,as Vortec has great customer service as well as Comptec, instead take a look at how they are set up and plumbed in the car.
Ohh ya , If you don't dump the clutch alot and race at the track your rear should be fine my rear took a ton of abuse(much more than i expected)before it blew apart) .

I am not as experienced as many of you are, so please forgive the question if the answer is obvious. What are the advantages of using a Supercharger over using a Turbocharger? And vice versa.

Thanks.
