Default Comptech Supercharger Belt

Hello! This is my first post here so I’m sorry if im in the wrong area.
A couple days ago i acquired a beautiful 2000 S2k with 112k miles. The car has a comptech Novi 1000 Supercharger, aftercooler, and a haltech ecu. Im relatively new to superchargers and especially s2k’s. I was driving and under WOT heard belt squeal, popped the hood and the supercharger belt looks relatively loose to me. Has maybe 1/2 inch of play. I was wondering if this belt needs to be slightly loose, or if it needs tightened.
i also would like some information on if i need to service the kit somehow, or if theres any extra maintenance i need to do with this kit.
the oil drain from the supercharger goes directly into the pan via the oil plug hole. Do i take the line off for oil changes?
Sorry for the newb questions, just excited about the car and trying to learn all i can.
Thank you!

Hi there, it does sound like the belt could be loose, but without physically being there to feel it I couldn't tell you by how much. It should be pretty taught to the touch, but general guidelines for tension is to be able to twist the belt 90 degrees at the largest length of the belt between the intake and aftercooler there. It is possible to overtighten and put strain on the blower bearings, causing premature failure, so you want to be mindful of this. Generally a good idea to have a boost gauge on board, and then you can see that if boost is not climbing after a particular rpm, then you most likely are still getting belt slip, or boost leak from a loose clamp, which can happen also.

For oil changes, yes removing the SC drain line from the drain hole is required. Remove the line at the elbow fitting with a wrench, then remove the fitting that resides in the pan with a socket.

thank you for your info! The belt is able to turn 90 degrees then stops. Ill have to get a boost gauge to keep an eye on it.

What belt is it? Do you know the brand? How old is it? Some belts are crappy. Gates make great belts. If the belt can twist 90 degrees then tension is good however if the belt is pretty old (2 to 3 years of boosting) then it can be overly stretched at this point and will slip anyway.
