I've got greddy e-manage blue.. With this whole rebuild i can't afford a AEM atm.
If you can't afford to do it right the first time, what makes you think you can afford it the second go around?
I guess theres more to it, than just calling it ultra conservative. Id say its more that many tuners dont put any timing at all in the things.
Instance thats recent to me...
Guy from on here assembles his car here in vegas with a ton of calls back and forth to me to get him dialed in. He chooses his own tuner which is a guy that many love, but i know he hasnt a clue.
He calls me the night the car is to be dynoed. I go and watch the guy at work, and am looking at the car on the dyno and listening. Its apparent he has no timing in it at all, i show the owner... LOOK that manifold is jet hot coated and its glowing red, with NO load/no boost. He assures me the guy is good, im pretty upset and i leave.
He calls me when its all done. Took the guy 4 hours to tune the car....wtf?
I say, whatd it make? he says, oh 419 to the tire at 19 psi....
I go...
Its gonna fry dude, here call this guy right now, and he will get you straightened out. (im being polite and not naming names)
He calls my homie, who says ill tune you and if you dislike the tune its free.
My friend puts it on the dyno, and calls me right away. Says he cant believe what he sees on the screen.
He unplugs the boost controller and goes wastegate. 12 psi.
Still calm timing and gets rid of the skate ramp fuel curve, and the car makes almost 480 to the tire. Manifold no longer glows at any point...LOL.
THATS what im saying, when i hear people roasting exhaust valves. I cant say theres a such thing as "conservative" timing, Its either right or its wrong. Yeah you can crank on the timing and say its on the ragged edge and its not "conservative" but thats not really smart, nor safe now is it.
You can get it correct, and the mixture, and add a few psi and have the same result or you can be scared, and go the other direction. Which is most likely whats causing roasted exhaust valves in any case.
