I need help with my s2000’s fuel system and I was wondering if you knew how to clean or unclog it? It turns off about 20 seconds after turning on and if I take the gas cap off it’ll run normally. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply sir. Is your car stock or modded? Standalone ECU? Boosted?

Either way it sounds like there's a definite blockage somewhere in the system. The quickest and easiest way to start ruling things out is to remove the 3/8" rubber line from the 2 way vent solenoid and the larger corrugated plastic hose with the push-lock fitting from the charcoal canister. This bypasses the system entirely and allows the tank to freely breathe and vent to the atmosphere, so you'll smell some fuel. This will rule out the 2-way valve on top of the tank as well as those 2 hoses coming off of it for any potential blockages. After that it will be a process of elimination testing the various solenoids within the system to ensure they're functioning and also checking all of the hoses for blockages. I want to assume that your charcoal canister is simply 100% saturated with fuel, but without more info I can't really say. If you're in an emissions-free state I'd just advise you to remove the entire system like I did so you won't have to worry about this problem occurring again down the line, otherwise the process of finding out exactly what's causing the blockage issue is a pretty long and tedious one as there's several solenoids that need testing if you're still running the stock ECU. If you're on a standalone though I'd say your charcoal canister is probably flooded.

Try removing those 2 hoses I mentioned though, it's a 5 minute job. Pictures of which hoses need to be removed to bypass the entire system while still leaving it in place are higher up in the thread.

With a stand-alone ECU, with EVAP not working but in place, can’t we just get a vented fuel cap?

Or is the OEM cap vented already, and vented-caps are only one way, so they allow air in to avoid vacuum, but do NOT allow pressure/air out for EVAP reasons?

Sorry for the minimum information, I wasn’t sure if you were going to respond. I have an 07 with 70k miles, it is all stock. I will try what you mentioned and will report back. Thank you very much!

Just have to say, this was a well documented DIY. Should edit the original posts to include the OEM diagrams in the later posts but pics, arrows, part numbers...great job!

I just got my car up and running. Its on AEM infinity, after some etuning this weekend I noticed my garage has a smell of gas. No signs of leaking around the fuel rail. Could the gas smell be related to the evap system/will this mod help alleviate the smelly garage?

Hi guys,

I just got around to finishing this mod myself--once again thanks to the community for coming through! I surely would have ended up with a flooded canister if I hadn't chanced upon this thread. Now as it turns out, things are laid out quite differently in my 2007. Here is how I tackled my delete:

First of all, I have no idea how anyone is able to fit K&N 62-1370 over the top of the air intake hose. I tried copious amounts of lube but eventually just said eff it and cracked out the Dremel.


Here's a shot of the final product using the same cushion clamps as the OP along with a single 6x20mm bolt and locknut.

Yeah the filters are right next to each other but it's too damn tidy to muss.

The hard line is still there as a structural member for my DIY AP2 return-style fuel system. At least that's the excuse I tell myself for not removing it. I'd like to deal with the electrical connectors too but I've had enough for now.
