A transaxle swap would be close to the same amount of work as a diff/trans swap. You guys are already talking about a Liberty or T56, you'll need to figure out mounting, propshaft and clucth/flywheel combo with them. the same issues exist with a transaxle. You could keep the S2k bellhousing and clutch, just need a torque tube to the transaxle.
A R200 swap needs different halfshafts and propshaft, so would a transaxle. You may even pick up a a traction advantage with the transaxle over the rear axle center line.

I don't think a transaxle setup would fit under the rear of the car without cutting a bunch of stuff up. And then once all the fab work is done, you just have a stock corvette drive line, in which a few us have more than enough power to break.
Most of us are just talking about gears for the stock case. A lot less work.

Okay, I am just starting to look much more seriously at the transmission as a week point as I just ordered my R200 diff.
Based on what I can see there are two components that they sell for our cars, one uses a synchro engagement and the other is the dog box. Now based on what I could find all the peices needed to rebuild are $2k plus shipping at the following link and here is the description. So what am I missing?
PPG Honda S2000 1-6 spd. and 1:1 reduction gear. Helical cut, synchro engagement.
Ratios: 3.16/2.09/1.53/1.22/1.04/0.88

Anyone look into this?

The stronger the gear the better. For those that state that you can't stand the gear whine. Well strength comes at some sort of trade-off. I would much rather have strength and put up with the gear whine than have gears break on me.
So if we are moving forward with some sort of project let's go with the best, unless different options will be available.
On that note, I had started doing some research on the TKO-600 trans. Although I don't know if it fits without major major issues, the overall measurements don't seem all that bad. I did not keep up on this information research because my project is on hold as of right now. but I did talk to Liberty Transmissions and they said they could probably make it work.
