The Supra uses a Getrag. They are pretty strong, as well as the trans in the Nissans. But again, the amount of money needed to swap those into our cars will meet or exceed the costs of the PPG gears.

You need to remember, with drop in gears, you don't need to worry about an adapter plate, different clutch/flywheel setup, shifter, driveshaft, mount, etc. So even if the initial cost of the trans is cheaper, you have so many other expenses to make it work. And then you just have another stock, synchro, transmission.

I just wish ppg's reduction gear was a bit shorter. Something along the lines of .9 to 1 or the like. Not that it matters to people like boostedf22 who traps damn near at the top of 4th, but for us street guys who occasionally tracks to see neat numbers to brag about.

what tranny does a skyrine and poopra use? cant those take the abuse and high revs?
The Supra uses a V160 6-Speed GETRAG transmission. The cost of that transmission alone will run your around $5K-$7K.

I think you mean the other way. Stock is 1.1 or 1.2 to 1 depending on AP1/AP2.

If you are making the power to break the stock stuff, you should be trapping pretty high anyways. I do agree though, I think the gearing should be a bit quicker. We can always rev higher if needed.

That is what I would like . PPG could do something for the community and still come out on top money wise. At that price you would have to imagine the s2000 gear set they did R&D on are not flying out the door. A vendor gets the price dropped enough for people to purchase these things with a clear conscience and they might make some money.

Im open to any new ideas venomous I just remember friends with there 5.0 and tko trannys. They where good but not great , but if someone could get one to drop into my car for a good price I would prob get the old credit card out and go with it.
Yesss, ultimately I too would like for PPG to work something out. I'm a firm believer in keeping everything Honda parts or at least the trans case.

But I'm open to to other ideas as well. I too had a couple of mustangs in the past and I know how they shifted. Did they shift with top of the world qualities? No. However they shifted properly and never broke. I much rather take a trans that won't brake and give up some of the top of the world quality. To me it's a lot cheaper than breaking trannies like I have done.

I have a daily driver 02 Maxima stickshift and it shifts like a toilet bowl full of caca. Notchy and all. Found out they're all pretty much like that. However, nothing else wrong and it doesnt grind or nothing so it does the job, but that I tell ya its some low quality shifting.

And sure once you get into adapter plates, different trannies, it's not for the faint of heart. But PPG starting at 15K its not for the faint of heart either.

Again, yes ultimately keeping the honda case with strenghened internals is what I would want too, but not at the steep price.

On that note, PPG with straight cut gears is my choice.

What about the TR6060, used in the Saleen Extreme version cars. Also in the ZR1 vette. You can find those for less than $3k all day long.

A dog box with only 1-4 dogs engagement and retains the oem 5th + 6th gear would be great.

It will be a bit cheaper and easier to fill up the groceries

Helical cut gears will be fine. There is no need to go straight cut unless the car is only used at the track.
