That's the same coating Porsche uses on their flagship 911s: the 911 Turbo, GT3 & GT2.

All other pre-DFI Porsche engines were throw away engines that would end up with bore scoring because they weren't treated with Nikisil like the Mezger CUP race motor that's in the Turbo/GT3/GT2 cars.

This sort of makes sense why boring-out F20/F22 and having a rebuilt engine doesn't last. You rid of that Honda super strong lining, end up with soft cylinder walls, and bore-score over n over.

Love that they offer Nikisil for Honda blocks now.

Cool well someone build an engine, document it step by step, and post it here.

I'm also not a big fan of sleeved engines as I've seen my share of issues with sleeved blocks years ago. A big one being they sink/shift and even leak coolant (where the new sleeve rests on top of the old sleeve that got cut down, water seeps between the sleeve and Al sleeve that's left). With the old honda motors the steel sleeve was cast into the Al sleeve/block with ribs up and down the bore. I'm not a ME but that would seem to be stronger than sleeves pressed into place.

Here's a sleeve from an old b-motor.

Any updates on this?
Pulled my head tonight and found some serious scoring on my cylinder walls, so I need solutions!

I sent my motor to Jeremy Allen (it shipped today).
If you’re self building you can send your block to Millineum Coatings. They’ll fix, coat it and match pistons to the bores. I just wanted a guaranteed solution.

Looking into their services, I'm thinking of sending in my complete motor to have them refresh the head too.
What were you quoted to rebuild the whole motor?

3000-3500 for a basic rebuild. You’d want to call him to discuss, as that estimate was a year or more ago.

I opted for his 2.4 stroker build, using my F20 as the base. That cost was more, and part of his Black Friday deal, so the cost would be more than I paid.

My next motor was going to be a Nikasil coating experiment. I’ll likely still do this with the blown up F22 at some point. I decided that oil consumption and shorter life spans that sleeved motors have suffered from would not matter for me, as I drive the car infrequently.

If you end up needing a F22 3 cylinder let me know, lol.

So a little cheaper than a used F20 and you're getting a fresh engine instead of an unknown... Deal!
But I think I'll stick with all 4 cylinders for now. Lol
