In order for the kit to get CARB certification they fuel management will need to be "absolutely locked"

Essentially the CARB kits will need to include a locked and un-modifiable eManage. I assume it will have its own CARB sticker on it.

So, help save me from reading 9 pages...

We are just waiting on Greddy to tune it for an AP2 and it should be out Q3 2007? Would be interested in looking into this for my 2005...

even if you get the greddy carb "locked" ULT its is relatively easy to generate a "user adjustable base" map that is exactly like the Greddy "locked" one.

Its just a madder (over simplified) of logging (using the ULTs logging feature) the injectors, load, ignition timing and rpm and filling in the load cells, assuming you have a loaded dyno that allows you to hit all load cells via steady state tunning.

this gives you the data necessary to generate your own map.

Only thing this you will need to extrapolate if necessary the acceleration adjustment map and a couple of other adjustable settings.

Kind of ironic that even if Greddy supplies you a

You are correct but how is the CARB guy going to check to see if you have or have not modified it......

All you do is create you own maps and lock them with your own password.

That way just incase they do try and look at your settings with a laptop they are still locked

The ULT is not set up to totally lock you out of the system
AKA locked to the point you can

To get the CARB sticker they will need to provide proof that the end user can not change the eManage settings. This may require that Greddy completely lock it out, remove the USB port, etc.. My guess is they would want to leave logging capability so they will need to have to add something to the firmware that does not allow you to load your own maps. Essentially you would need to get a non-CARB eManage which would render your kit non-CARB legal.

Those CARB guys are pretty smart - they teach the CHP all the little cheats to look for.
Yes, they are very smart. I have been to the state ref before, and they seriously know their shit. They spent about a half hour inspecting my car to make sure everything was straight.

That being said, it wouldn't be that hard to run another emanage or another EMS for everyday use, and then swap the CARB legal emanage back in for smog...but that gets spendy. Hopefully the tune will be good enough that further tuning isn't necessary, but then everyone is stuck at the stock boost level...unless somehow it can auto-enrich the fuel after reading more boost.

You would automatically fail A Smog Visual in CA with a test pipe as no test pipes are CARB certified.
