Greddy Upgrade (theoretically speaking)

Ive got a Veilside Ti exhaust and test pipe.

I'll try my best to explain but im no engineer/tuner so i hope it makes sense and apologies to those that are more knowledgable.

It would come on boost as per usual and the power curve would rise fast but then as you passed about 6500rpm the power would fall of very quickly and make less than a stock kit. Vtec was engaging and all things were checked. It wouldnt follow the natural dyno power line. If we ran at lower boost the power line on the dyno would mimick the normal standard Greddy plot as most have on this forum but be down on power due to the drop in compression. It just seemed to me as if the turbo couldnt not cope with amount of pressure it was being asked to flow. I didnt bother getting a dyno printout as didnt seem worth it, but Mase was there doing my mapping and he saw the results himself. I actually drove it like this for a while as below 6500 revs it did pull very hard but short shifting the S is not the point, was like driving a diesel.

As i said this was just my experience and maybe i had a duff go but thats how i found it.
hmmm very interesting
what map sensor did you use? What did Mase think of the issue?

wouldn't a "you-tune" kit disqualify the kit from it's carb legal status?
the you tune kit would be a totally different kit...

my interest in the upgrade is not to maintain CARB certification.

if greddy did a "you-tune" type of kit, the card cert and R&D would be out of the equation for them, basically just make the DP to match the t618z turbo and call it a day- and that should be easy.

My point is that merely selling an upgrade kit is not really a great idea. Since customers would have to buy the base kit + the upgrade kit. This would deter anyone who wants to go straight for the bigger turbo setup from buying greddy, as the price would be too much. If a customer wanted the larger turbo setup from the start, they would have to purchase the street legal kit first. It would be good for those who buy the base kit and want more power later, but how many people will that be? Most people know that they want < or > X amount of power from the beginning.

My idea is that greddy should make a you-tune kit (an entirely different kit from the street legal kit). This would have a larger turbo, DP, maybe even a wastegate. Wastegate should add to the cost, but MSRP should be competitive since there won't be an emanage included and not much R&D costs involved (no tuning, no CARB tests, etc.).

This way, it MIGHT be able to compete with the IP kit.

this is off topic but I gotta ask chris lum something. Since I don't see the name much I was wondering if you are the same Chris Lum -producer/dj - moulton studios ect. I thought that since you are on the west coast you might be.

Well it looks like a lot of people want to upgrade the T518Z turbo. There is speculation that the bigger turbo T618Z may fit with some minor modification. This information has not been confirmed yet! It seems that none of you guys with the greddy turbo kit have seen the t618z and no one has any specific measurement of your T518Z

After upgrading my T517z 10cm^2 turbo on my r32gtr to a t618Z 10cm^2, also upgrading the dump pipes recently and ensuring that I have spare parts for my track car, I have a lot of parts left in my garage that I can help you guys with this issue.

I suspect that you guys can order the T618z turbo and bolt it straight in to your existing kit. I have enough parts in my garage to confirm this but I'll need
-the foot print of the turbine inlet. Could someone measure the distances (including diagonal distance) between the 4 bolts holding the turbo to the exhaust manifold?
-if someone can trace the turbine-dump gasket and post it to me

Does anyone want to volunteer?

lucky77, IF you are still using the factory MAP sensor, I suspect that might be the cause of your problem because the factor map sensor is only good up to around 13psi

So lucky77 you will be using a 20g, I am going to use a GT30r and a new DP, it will be very interesting to compare our results. When do you plan on having yours tuned?
Will an internally gated GT30 bolt up to the mani or are you changing the mani and going external with the new down pipe?
