Has anybody else had problems with Haltech Platinum Pro?
GENTLEMEN!!!!!!!!
The time is here!
I know a few of us have been working directly with Matt throughout this whole issue. The service from the Haltech team and their willingness to see this through has been absolutely second to none. I know this has plagued us for a while, but they haven't stopped working on this yet.
I wanted to share the email I received from the Haltech team last night for those who haven't been in direct contact with them.
Subject: Haltech S2000 Plug and Play ECU Update
Hi Guys - I know it seems like an eternity since I have spoken to you about the S2000 occasional high RPM misfire issue that you have reported on your vehicles. We have some good news, a potential fix for all vehicles that does not require any hardware modifications. Attached to this email is an experimental version of firmware that when loaded into your ECU should prevent the misfire from occurring.
To give you a very brief description of the problem and solution this provides the issue is with the cam sensor signal, on some vehicles over time the cam sensor produces a random extra signal, the ECU recognises that this extra signal is not correct and cuts the fuel and ignition until it can re-establish the correct sinchronized crank/cam sensor pattern. This happens almost immediately as inertia carries the engine onto the next engine cycle (at 7000RPM that takes less than 0.02 of a second), so the result of this is a single misfire then the ECU recovers and the engine continues on its way unaffected.
We tried a number of ways to fix this issue with varying degrees of success, ultimately what we really wanted was a solution that could be implemented in the field without the need for complex hardware modifications so we developed a more complex firmware strategy to interpret the crank/cam sensor pattern which could eliminate the erroneous cam signal. That’s what this attached firmware has achieved on our test engines here in Australia, and hopefully will achieve for you guys as well.
So I invite you to save the attached file, unzip it and use the firmware upgrade utility in the ECU manager software to upgrade your ECUs firmware. If you have any problems with this process or if this does not fix your problem please do not hesitate to contact me. If no one has any issues I will issue this firmware as a release and put a notification up on our website and on the S2000 forums.
Thank you all again for your patience and support.
Kind Regards,
Matt Wright

Awesome! Thanks for the update. Do you think that this firmware update should be applied regardless of whether we have experienced the issue or not? I ask because it sounds like the issue may be more prevalent in older cars in which the can sensor has developed this extra signal. I have a MY00 so if its a time thing then I'd rather update the firmware and not experience the issue at all versus having the issue occur and retroactively installing the firmware. Is this what I should do or should I wait and see if the issue ever occurs?
As detailed in the email, we are all going to try it out, if no one has the issue return, they will consider it a success and add to the website.
If you are looking to try this firmware out, shoot me a PM with your email address and I can fwd it down the line.
cant wait to try this out. i personally worked with Matt and the Haltech team to figure this out. We had narrowed it down to a software issue but knew there was something else going on (extra signal) I'm hoping this is the fix that we are all looking for.
Yessss! This is great news! I would try this out as well, but I have to send my turbo in for warranty repair
Thanks everyone for the help and also thanks to Haltech for working long and hard trying to figure out a solution to the problem! My day really did get that much better! Its the best thing that can happen given that my turbo just started leaking oil
