I need help 2001 turbo s2000, CA
ok so i heard the knock while handcranking the engine with the oil pan and the valve cover off. the knock was apparent while the spark plugs were in but not when they were out, so it only knocks while under compression. the next step i took was to only have one spark plug in at a time to see which stroke the knock was coming from. the knock did not occur when a spark plug was in cylinder 2 or 3. when a spark plug was in cylinder 1 or 4 the knock occured. im numbering the cylinders as 1-2-3-4 front to back. it sounds like a valve from the bottom end and when you klisten from the top end it sounds like bottom end. (i believe sense the cam has pressure on valves in cylinder 1 and 4 at the same time while a spark plug is in that it may have something to do with top end, but let me know what you all think before i tear the engine down. ill perform a compression test in the mean time but all in all theres a knock while handcranking so i need to fix it whether or not i have good compression
ok so i did a compression check 1st cylinder was 200, 2nd was 240 and second try 240 but some oil got in that spark plug hole because of a seal leak, 3rd was 195 and 4th was 200. 1=200 2=230-245 wet 3=195 4=200
Damn dude. What a scumbag for selling you this. I feel sorry for ya. I just sold my boosted civic not to long ago but I told the owner it had a knock. So many shady people out there. I hope you get it all sorted out man! There was no knocking when u test drove it?
You must do a complete tear down. There is no way around it; you must find the source of that aluminum. I hope your seller didn't put standard forged pistons in a stock block (read: no aftermarket iron sleeves).
If you don't have one, get a helms manual. It will take all the guess work out of this and make it worlds easier.

There should be NO visible metal in the oil at all. Something is catastrophically wrong with that block IF you can confirm it's not your TCT which it sounds like you did. I can't completely tell from your description. Outside of the TCT, if you can see visible metal, odds are the metal is wearing itself away into pieces you CAN'T see too. I'd wager if you spun that oil down, there may be some metal sludge.
You have a few options.
Go to your local section of s2ki and ask around for reputable shops, but this is going to cost well into the thousands. If you don't have a spare 3k laying around for this, the bottom two are your only real options.
In the same local section, you can look for a fellow s2ki'er to help you out, but this is a ginormous favor for someone to walk into.
If you have a second car, go buy a helms manual, a metric tool set, floor jack/stands, and mentally tell yourself the only person who is going to fix this is you an start into it. Here, you have two directions to go:
1.) This is the easiest and seeing you have visible metal you may be here anyway. Buy a motor from a reputable business. Use a credit card with good purchase protection (AMEX protects for 1000 with conditions). Swap out motors and be done with that lump of a headache. You can tear down at your leisure and see what's wrong.
2.) You can do the tear down yourself. You may be at number 1 after you find what's going on. I can't overstate how bad seeing metal in your oil is. It doesn't take much to junk a block. It seems car modding is a bit new to you. I'd buy a fold out table from costco, some ziploc freezer bags, pack of sharpies, and devise an organizing system. Get some small boxes and separate your tear down into systems and put those in separate boxes. This'll help come reassembly time. The helms will literally walk you through everything you need to do.
Considering where it seems you're coming from, the shortest solution would be to do a quick block swap. Don't mess with short blocks. You have no idea the condition of the head and folks are usually consistent with their actions. That is if they have poor attention to detail in one area, they are likely to perform similarly in others.
If it were me, I'd get another long block. There are to many questions with your block. I'm sorry this is happening to you, but crappy stuff happens to people who don't deserve it all the time. FYI, I have a 2500 body shop bill from a dumbass kid and irresponsible parent from backing into my car. I'm still salty about it.
edit:
I reread your engine description. This motor has forged H beam rods and STOCK PISTONS??? If this is so, it is highly unorthodox. I would double check that. The stock rods are I beam BTW.
