Default If you could do it all over again...

This is going to be long, so please bear with me. I am going to sell my Vortech kit in favor of a turbo set up. I am interested in anyone with experience or some serious technical advice on what I should do in steps to acheive 500 whp while saving reliability. The money from the Vortech and with savings should be close to 15k. I know I need to build the bottom end. I am unsure of the best, bullet-proof internals to add. My mechanic and I can do most of the work, so factor out the labor. Other things in question: Knife edge crank? Full blueprint? What type of fuel management? Piston, rings, rods, spring retainers recommended.. Also, should I stroke her out before hand? With a 15K budget, how much extra do I need to do this project? I am open to all suggestions. The 15K can be stretched to reach the desired results.

why dont you just buy a different car. 15k and your car you could get something that could handle all the power a lot better.

No offense, but why do people always say crap like this?

Given a $47,000 budget, name one convertible, two seat car with leather interior and drop dead looks that can get you 500hp?

PM cbj80 or fperra they are experts regarding turbo, Chris (cbj80) has made more that 500 WHP.

You can reach 500 whp without stroke the engine but you have to thinks in the diferential too, it is our weak point, if you do not want ot blow it

As electronic device you should run AEM standalone, it is the best and more affordable if compared with motec and similars.

As a tuner you can PM cbj80 or Sean at Torquefreaks he is very knowledge with the AEM. His is going to tune my 2.5L engine.

Joe at Allianz Technologies can build you a very good engine also, I have not read anything bad about his work.

I am having Alaniz technologies port my head and upgrade the springs and retainers. As far as the bottom end I am using CP 9:1 CR pistons, Crower rods and Darton sleeves. As far pistons go I think that you can't go wrong with any BIG name brand.........same goes for rods. Engine management I would use a HKS FCON V PRO or a AEM EMS.

Well, I hate to say something that apparently angers you but if I had to do it all over again (being $75k +/-) into the car, I would certainly choose another platform. But since you don't want to hear that, I'll offer up some advice based on my personal experience. Take it for what it's worth, I am by no means an expert. Things other than the engine that should be addressed:

If you drive the car daily, or frequently at that, I would install a clutchmaster stage 3 clutch (or another brand with like properties)

I would NOT use a lightened flywheel unless you're planning on tracking the car.

While the car is down, I would remove the half shafts and send them to a place that can either reinforce them or build stronger ones.

I would do whatever possible to upgrade the strength of the diff... ie Comptech upgrade, diff upgrade, cryo or whatever. The stock diff sucks.

Performance-wise, you'll need to do something with the exhaust. I've opted to leave the cat in place and have a custom 3" exhaust ending in an Apexi N1 can. Yes, the crank being knife edged will reduce the friction and stress on the motor. Not a bad idea, I did it as well. I used ferrea valves, springs and retainers. Pistons, I used JE 9.5:1. Rods, Pauter. ARP head and main studs. Make sure you're compensating for expansion of the pistons when you're sizing your sleeves. cjb80 can give you more info on that than I can. I used his specs. He learned the hard way... Other than that, don't be too hard on the tranny... it won't like it.

The two choices I would have in place of the S2K for 500 or more hp? 1999 - 2001 Corvette or Mustang Cobra (not sure of the years but the one up to 2004). You have an excellent platform with tons of room for upgrades.

Good luck and keep us informed on how it goes.

Don't knife-edge the crank on this car. It's not worth the money. Just a waste.

Personally, I think what you need to look at is the reliability of the drivetrain. Chris dyno'ed at what, 500+ rwhp but has he ran the car at the track? Does he drive it hard?

I don't trust the S2000's tranny or differential at all. My S2000 is for cruising, and my Supra is for racing!

If I had to do it over, I think I would've left the S2000 stock.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll take it all into close consideration. I have been thinking about selling the car and buying an NSX as well.
