Thumbs up Lowering compression?

I'm having a custom turbo setup built and it should be done Next Friday. My new setup will be everything listed in my signature. My question is what can I do to make my motor safer with 9psi+ without having a complete custom rebuild. I know I have the option of going with a thicker head gasket to lower the compression but is that all I should do and where is a good place to get one? Also, I plan on running 8-9psi but was wondering by doing a thicker head gasket how much more boost can I get away with and keep wear and tear on a safe level, and what else to do to safely handle more boost? Please list name of parts and if you know of a good place to get them .

Thanks,
Erik

s/c guys are running at 7psi with stock compression, you might be ok... the stock internals might be able to handle 8psi..

There are plenty of people now running 8+psi on the stock internals with no headgasket. I will keep an update going on how well my motor takes to 8+psi when I get it back.

Well you have the option ot get the head gasket, lower comression pistons, or have the combustion chamber reworked to lower compression. I'd go with the head gasket and head studs. Unless I was shooting for 450+whp then it'd be a built bottom end and 9:1 pistons.

^ RZFD, So if I went with a thicker head gasket and head studs, how much boost is safe if tunned right, 10, 11, 12psi? And are valves springs and retainers necessary? Do you know of which brands for those and head studs and which size head gasket?

Thanks

if you lower the compression with the 3mm headgastket you should be ok with 12psi and a good tune it would be nice.

Is that all I need for a safe 11-12psi? Also, is installing a thicker head gasket a do-it-yourself project? And I have heard ARP head studs are a go route to go. What about 3mm head gasket brand and do you know where to get one?

Thanks

Inline Pro was running something like 18psi with just a headgasket. Car was in the 11's on stock everything and as far as I heard nothing wrong yet.

I'm soon to be going with the cometic 2mm head gasket (compression should be around 10:1). And boost will be set at around 12 psi for around 420 whp. I think the 3mm gasket will be too much of a compression drop, which would result in a lot of torque loss. If you plan on going below 10:1 compression and want more boost and hp the that, you might as well just get the engine built and boost the crap out of her.
