So how many people are getting this false knock pick up from their sensors?

I was one of the first people to get my Mase kit up and running and have had all these issues as well, but due to lack of other people having the kit, I thought my motor was the issue.

My car smokes on decel when coming to a stop, and also have a pretty constant oil smell. I'm sure some of you may remember this from when I was posting of my issue with smoking after the install. So glad that I didn't go through with rebuilding my motor yet.. saved money again, for now.
I've got to call Mase for this restrictor, and hope thta it is indeed the fix to my problem.. it drives me up the wall, and its been this way since January!!

False knock!! This shit costed me an extra $300 freaking dollars!!
On the dyno the tuner was picking up knocking randomly. My knock sensor is the original one, and has never been broken.
The reason it costed me money was that I trailored the car up to the dyno (an hour and a half away) and otw there I stopped at a Shell station to fill the tank up.
Well the false knock reading kept popping up.. I didn't want to go home in disappointment and because we were unsure if it were bad gas, or a faulty/false knock sensor, I had them drain my tank.. yup.. a full tank.. and put some q16 in..
All in all I paid for new plugs, labor to drain the tank.. and for the q16 fuel.
Yup.. we were still picking up knocks..
Called it a day, and came back the next week to finish it off properly..

I wish I knew of other people having these issues too, sooner, so I wouldn't have gone through the trouble and extra money.

Call Mase...
Get the restrictor and if that doesn't work have him warranty the turbo with precision.

I had and still have my oil feed from the stock oil pressure sensor location off the block. I have put the stock dummy sensor on the relocation block and run an AEM sensor on the feed "T".

If you run your feed this way then IMO run:

journal bearing: .065 restrictor
Water cooled ball bearing: .035 restrictor
Ceramic ball bearing???
I feel the same way. If you use the oem pressure sensor area for the feed to the turbo, definitely use a restrictor for the JB turbo's.

Where would be the beat place to get a .065 restrictor that will fit mase's feed (-3) for my jb?

^^I got mine through ATPturbo.com for about $20 shipped. I bought a .065" restrictor that I may drill out to a .100", but probably wont use it. I just got it for a "just in case".

Hold for just a minute, you are going to need a 90deg fitting. I literally just ordered (3) so that I could figure out the easiest and cheapest way to do this.

(1) Take a standard -3AN to 90DEG fitting and weld up the inlet then redrill. (This is what Mase Nick does and it is fool proof but requires welding skill)

(2) Cut the cone off of the front of the same fitting and drill to accept a nitrous jet. I am going to give this a shot, this way I can easily adjust the restrictor. (if I can machine the face flat this will be great for testing)

(3) Buy a standard straight restrictor and put on a - 3AN male to female elbow (Adds joints to the system which means more points for failure)

(4) Buy a nitrous jet fitting, jet and new oil feed line with a 90deg end (Requires removal of the manifold)

(5) Use an aluminum 90deg nitrous jet fitting (I don't like to use anything but St-Stl, Brass or Plated Steel fittings on small fittings in the oiling sytem)

If (2) works you can get your own for $8 for Summit.

I like to think of this as growing pains. I have talked with many others and there are a few things that many of us need to address. Below are the issues I have or need to address with the system. It may look bad but compared to others this is pretty good.

(1) Oil Burning Ball Bearing Turbo's (Precision's Issue)
(2) Melting Filters (Seems that some do and others don't but I have yet to figure this out)
(3) Melting Oil Cooler Lines (I removed mine but will be reinstalling with higher grade heat sleeving.
(4) Manifold Vibration (Have yet to tackle this one, but some sort of bracing will result for this)
(5) Downpipe attachment (Need to add a bracket to attach to the block)
(6) Intercooler line attachment (Don't like that they just free float)
(7) Manage the extreme heat from the system (Not a design problem but should be addressed more most)

As for the false knock, I seemed to be getting it at 7500 and 8500 only and after I pulled timing it went away. Only the dyno will be able to tell the real story though.

I think most of us that are picking up the crazy knock are using kpro. We can't customize the knock tables like you AEM guys can

weird. I have AEM, but the tuner was still showing some random knocks on the dyno regardless of the timing. idk.. the reason.

I haven't melted a filter yet, or shown signs of getting close to melting mine. Other then the red dye in the filter having faded away, the actually rubber part that mounts to the turbo is still fine.

Oil cooler lines I've melted 2 times.
I got a new hose and and i bought a new sleeve for it. I actually extended the hose a few inches to hang lower, bought some heat insulation sleeves that were meant for spark plug wires. I undid the thread and unrolled it so that its as long as the hose, and ziptied the low end of the hose to my drain line. Haven't had a problem with it since then.
If needed I can take pics since my manifold is off at the moment.

I agree some bracing is needed on the DP. Being a vband, and the design, it has a tendency to move down slightly.

As for manifold vibration, I just sent my manifold and DP to Mase for him to add a brace. We'll see next week how it turns out.

I haven't had much of a heat issue. I took out the rubber strip on the cowel thing under the hood, and have a cooling plate with a scoop ( meant for the factory airbox) and I think it helps to keep underhood temps down a bit.. I think..
But I'll prolly cut those slots on my hood to help with underhood temps anyway.
