Default is my turbo on its way out?

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=777441

i did search already

also, if i go wot i'll get a black puff almost everytime. a friend just told me he saw it last night

I have a 02 with 73k miles and i bought it from some older people in july of 07 with 19k miles on it in mint condition. i don't drive it hard and i rarly ever hit redline and i don't hit vtec that often. i baby it. I installed a used greddy kit in january and the last month or so every once in a while (its done it 3 times) i can go drive it and when i stop and let it cool down to get gas when i start the car again it plumes white smoke out until i get on the road and then it stops. it doesn't do it often and the turbo has 8k+ miles on it so i'm wondering if the turbo seals are going out or if its valve stem seals.

i'm upgrading to a mase kit really soon and i'm planning on changing the retainers and valve stem seals then but do you think thats the problem or is my turbo going bad??

any insight to this from you guys?

white smoke is coolant. When turbo seal goes out its usually blue/black. Also when it goes out, it would smoke after you do a pull or on and off the gas. If its smoking at idle then the seal is gone.

Your issue seem to be a minor leak in headgasket. I recommend you do a compression test on your motor just to find the health of it. Good luck.

do you let your turbo cool off before you shut it off?

yes, i sit in it for a minute or two everytime

i bought it used and it seemed to be in good condition but you never really know

the smoke is whitish. maybe a little blue in it. i'll have to see if it happens again and i'll get out of the car and go look real quick

Compression test generally don't show bad headgaskets too well. A leakdown is better off.

Let the car idle and get a sniff of the smoke. If has a sweet smell, or even a coolant smell to it, you know its coolant.

If its the turbo, you'll smell oil. Just don't inhale it, probably not healthy for you

Also,

If its the greddy kit, and it uses the oil return to the pan via their custom banjo fitting, it might just be your turbo going.
