Default New to S2K boost!

Hey all,

I recently purchased an AP1 with a vortech s/c on it. It is the only mod to the car, other than reinforced diff w/ 4.56 gears.

I have tried using the search, but haven't been able to find the exact answers to my questions, so here they are:

1. It has the FMU, which is mechanical and just adds fuel as boost rises, correct? It also has the black box, which is for adjusting timing when needed?

2. I would like to add an exhaust and test-pipe to the car, but am afraid to do so because I think I would run lean. So, is it safe to do this w/out more advanced fuel tuning? If not, would SAFCII or Neo work? I can't afford stand-alone right now.

3. I don't intend on raising the boost for a long time, if ever, so are there any concerns I should have regarding injector size?

4. How long should I wait before I replace the s/c belt? fluid in the aftercooler?

Thanks for the help guys! My old Tiburon was s/c'd as well, but it was a roots blower, so quite different from vortech!

you didn't give enough info.
You state that you don't intend to raise boost anytime soon in relation to whenther or not you should get larger injectors, the problem is you don't state what boost level yo uare at right now...

You should get an emanage at least if you want to start adding on to your setup. You will feel better about it.

It would be nice to know your current AFR. If it is running a bit rich then adding exhaust and test pipe won't be a problem. If it is good or lean then you need to find a way to add fuel. SAFC is not ideal but will work for now. If you decided to use SAFC, I would recommend using that for WOT tuning only and don't touch partial throttle settings.

As for injectors, you will need a standalone to run larger injectors. Since I am running a turbo setup, I don't know the answer on belt and fluid.

Running the base boost level right from Vortech which is right around 7 psi? . . . the car doesn't have a boost gauge installed yet, but I'm working on getting one.

I suppose step one would just be to do a couple dyno runs to see what my a/f ratio is both open and closed loop to find where I am running rich and lean

Also, at base psi, should I get a boost gauge measuring in bars or just psi? I have a glow-shift boost gauge I used in my Tib, but they don't make a pod for the S2K . . . I assume that if I can find a pillar w/ the right measurements, I can still use the gauge?

thanks for the help guys!

as far as fluid goes you should chesk it once a week or so, you should be able to touch the water/anitfreeze with your finger, and as far as the belt, you should obviously watch for premature wear, and i believe vortech recommends changing it every 10,000 to 15,000 miles

So I was doin more research on the emanage, and it seems that it would work for me. Like I said, I don't intend on raising the boost. I just want to add an exhaust, test pipe, and a good dyno tune so that I can run safely, since my S is my DD. I just want to get around 300whp, and be done with it for a while. Might do some cosmetic stuff, but that's for another forum . . .

I'll probably be selling my reinforced diff w/ 4.56 gears to fund this in the spring

For my simple project, would a basic emanage be the way to go, as opposed to the ultimate?

you might not want to do this. you would feel a bit slower when you take this off. by the way, congrats and welcome to UMW.
