A lot of people use the timing cover for a return point. A fitting on the passenger side of the oil pan will usually be below the oil level.

Most use the feed from the oem oil pressure light switch. It is easy to use and is filtered oil. Just remember its a 1/8 british thread.

is it safe to tap the girdle for the return? also, would using the oil pressure switch feed force a delete of the switch?

Girdle or timing cover is best for the return, use this fitting in the link for the oil feed. Here’s a installed picture of it also.

Top driver side of the oil pan for oil return. Oil pressure sensor area for feed.
