Default Rear End

Im looking to buy a 2000 S2k with 56,000 miles. It has an inline pro turbocharger system on it that puts out 418 hp. Needs a rear differential. My questions:

How much would it cost to replace this item?

Ive heard of people putting a 300zx rear end on a S2k. Should I do that?

How much would that cost?

Is there anything I should really look at with a Turbo S2k before I buy it?

Whats a good price for this car?

Thanks for the help

Be careful buying any boosted car unless it is from a reputable guy on this forum. The fact it needs a rear end means the car was probably launched a lot and that is going to cost thousands to upgrade and if the diff is blown who knows about the axles etc. But it is your dime

axles, diff, and clutch are going to be items you'll want to know about before investing.

not really, the rears are pretty damn weak on the car and launching it only a few times can break the rear.

mine started whining after putting some 275 kuhmo mx tires on it and getting on it hard in 1st and second, but never launched it. im sure if i kept flooring it the rear would have shattered.

and with a diff swap (to non OEM, which is the best choice) you would need axles anyway, so that doesnt really matter.

the inline pro diff swap is around $3k i believe. there is now a ford 8.8 diff swap kit available, i would go with that one instead.

I would personally be very nervous buying a turbo'd S but maybe that is just me.
Would have to really check EVERYTHING out if buying it..
Can replace the rear end with a stock one for 450-550 or so.
Good luck.

Got some more info today on the car. It has had the turbo on for 4000 miles. Bought new from Inline pro and had the billet wheel upgrade for the turbo. Also got the inline pro stage 4 clutch. Has an inline pro down pipe with cat delete (no test pipe either). Goes out to a 3 inch single exhaust. Some engine mods done were 3mm head gasket to lower compression, 1000cc injectors, and an oil filter relocator.

Let me know if this effects anything and if I should go for it or not.

Also would like to know if the AP2 rear end is any better to swap out.

A lot of people, well guess I should say a few, are having bad luck with 3mm headgaskets after sometime.

What is happening with them? Is there an alternative?

They leak and eventually the head gasket blows. You can run a stock headgasket with a retune.
