S2K Cam Timing & Lift - AP1, AP2 (on/off VTEC)
Are there different cam lobes & profiles for VTEC vs. non-VTEC mode on the S2000 engine, or is VTEC just engaging a different set of higher-ratio rocker arms at a certain RPM?
Reason I ask, is that there is only one profile people discuss for 0.050" duration and lift on these cams. That leads me to think it's one set of lobes, and VTEC is simply a higher multiplication of the lobe (via a different rocker arm that engages at an ECU-set and oil-pressure approved RPM point).
If there were two different sets of lobes (one profile for under VTEC RPM range, one for in-VTEC RPM range), we'd see TWO different set of cam timing figures -- maybe 222 degrees @ 0.050" in standard mode and 230 degrees @ 0.050" lift. Figures for comparison are below. I'm giving some thought to keeping my AP1 intake and getting an AP2 exhaust cam for its extra lift which will help my Stage 3 Laskey head and GT3076R.

Great answer & thanks for the post. From that video link, there is a wholly different cam profile engaged during VTEC -- different duration, profile and lift.
So, does anyone know what the specs are for below-VTEC and for in-VTEC on AP1 and AP2?
Thanks again,
Stanford
