Smaller turbos?

The GT30 size turbine has proven to flow well enough in the 400whp-500whp range. The GTX 67mm compressor wheel flows a little under 50 lbs/min, so enough for plenty of power. With the 67mm compressor wheel being smaller than the 71mm and 76mm compressor wheels, the turbo should be snappier.

I owned an Evo before stepping to the S2k; the Evo is phenomenal, no doubt, but it's a less engaging drive IMO. I know of a couple other S2k owners who have come from the Evo.
Thats good to know. I have a good friend who has an S2k and hes let me drive it on occasion. definitely a wonderful drive and as u said, more engaging. The evo just feels like its driving itself, and as a toy/project car, its annoying. Doing any mechanical work on the thing is beyond a nightmare. Ive come from an MR2 before that (people say theyre hard to work on? But in my experience theyre pretty simple). The evo is just insanity, the amount of work involved to remove that gearbox, let alone remove a turbo dump pipe haha. Funny times.

Anyways, ive been doing lots of reading on S2ks as my next project basically. But i think i should decide on my daily ride first and be happy with that...

I probably have the smallest turbo on this forum on my s2000 other than people with the greeddy kit. I'm running a garrett ball bearing 50 trim. The flow rate is only rated at 46 pounds per min. On my old mase manifold I was about to make 395whp at 11psi of boost on 91 octane and 501whp on 17 psi with e85. This turbo spool pretty fast. I use to have this turbo on my old rev hard log manifold and the log manifold made a lot less power but spooled the turbo much much faster.

Here is the boost plot with the same turbo on my s2000 just with a log manifold. look at how much faster it spools than a tubular manifold. With the log manifold it makes crap for power but it spooled 800rpm faster than my tubular manifold.

pretty good spool. Even with your tubular manifold u get decent spool and a long powerband. Is that stock motor? any other modifications. S2ks look like pretty fun cars to get into. Im keen

I built an s2000 with a precision 5431.. a very small turbo.. it was on a 2.2 liter with a pretty decent custom turbo kit.

it hit 12psi at 3800 rpms, carried power pretty well to 8500.. it made 430hp/330tq. Very fun car to drive.

If you used a 28rs with the big t3 .83ar turbine housing it would probably make close to 400, but that compressor wheel starts to max around 350.

IMO a gt3071 with 82ar t3 turbine would be the best small turbo for an s2000.
