strange ticking problem
ok guys.. i am fed up with this car and have tried to think of EVERYTHING that this could possibly be.. so if you have info PLEASE help.
I have my 2000 S2k is currently turbocharged. There was a funny ticking noise coming from the engine so i thought.. well i spun a bearing. took off the head, oil pan, etc.. all looks good! bearings not worn, no scratches on the cylinder walls, valves all look very good, valve clearance all perfect.. torq spec checked 3 and 4 times!
I read online that many people had Timing chain tensioner problems that could make the noise.. so, i ordered one from hardtopguy and installed it.. the ticking noise is not as bad.. BUT a different, less apparent ticking EXISTS!!!
After listening from the top, bottom, left, and right with the engine stethoscopoe *i like to call it*, my mechanic and i have determined it is comming NOT from the block or the head.. but the front portion of the car.
What do you think it is?? i mean could it be the chain itself? or the chain guides? WTF COULD BE MAKING THIS NOISE! I'm sorry that i sound irritated.. but i've been trying to get this running for almost 7 months and i'm not one to just run the car when i know it's not operating correctly..
anyway if anyone has any ideas.. please..
thanks

it's not the injectors ticking. it's comming from the front of the motor, not form the block or the head..
i was wondering if anyone on the forum changed out their timing chain and chain guides to fix this issue?

Not an expert here but if your TCT was bad you'd have extra play in the chain that could slap and wear out the chain guides couldn't it.
As I said not an expert by any stretch but just a posible suggestion

Im 99% sure its the TCT.
Take it apart and remove the worm gear, sand blast it, re assemble, re compress and re pin it and put it back in.
I had the same issue and it was driving me nutty as hell. Did valve adjustment and this and that.. I even bought a new tensioner and the noise came back in one month and worse. I did the sand blast of the worm gear in the tensioner and all has been good and quiet.
Believe me I thought it wasnt my tensioner but after this mod to the tensioner all has been good.

What is the theory on sandblasting the worm gear? Sticking due to varnish or roughness?
