Default Turbo recomendations...

I've been looking around at different Turbo Kit options and am looking for some advice.

I see kits going from 2k - 7k and am curious what things to watch out for when getting a kit.

Ebay Kit

is the cheapest I've found, but that of course scares me. If working on a budget, whats the best way to go FI? Piece a kit together yourself? I'd love some feedback and suggestions for specific pieces and brands to use for the different components.

My overall goal is going to be somewhere in the range of 325 - 400 rwhp and am new to the FI game. Which diff do most of you FI guys go with? Do any of you run the aftermarket gears with much luck? I mostly autox, but just for fun so I don't worry about classing. I want to just add some pep to a daily driven car and keep it reliable to an extent.

Going FI, what all parts would you guys recommend replacing/beefing up? Gaskets, Reard Diff, Injectors, FPR? Stock axles hold up ok?

Thanks again!
Chris

Buy a nice used kit from this forum. About the only way and you will still need a bigger walet. Lowest price is Revhard kits in order for you to have enough money for other things the kits don't come with.

What do you exactly mean by on a budget because with the turbo kit, clutch, reinforced diff, exhaust, etc. needed to even support a turbo kit properly any budget kit turns into a big$ kit. I wouldn't cheap out on a turbo kit, buy the most complete and well designed kit you can afford with all the fueling taken care of as that can become a hassle if it not included in the kit.

If you're looking for 325-400hp, daily driver, and only want to spend around 7k you are way better off going supercharged. I have had both an SC setup and now a turbo set up. Let me show you a quick comparision.

Vortech with 9psi pulley : 320HP, 22MPG average (EMS with 650cc injectors), total spend $7500

Lovefab turbo : 310HP, 19MPG average (EMS with 650cc injectors), total spent $11000

So there you have it, spent an extra 3500, lost 10hp and 3MPG. Not to mention the fact that I am constantly working on the car. In fact today I have to go out and drop the oil pan because I have an oil leak where the return line runs into the pan that needs to be fixed.

like everyone is going to say... NEVER put turbo and cheap in the same sentance.

DO it right the first time. if you buy the cheap stuff in the beginning, in the end your gunna be spending alot more..

id say for what u want it for, go SC... more reliable, less hassle

Thanks guys, sounds like the kind of advice I was hoping to get.

I'm pretty familiar with the comptech SC, but not so with the vortech. Without starting a little fued, are there pros and cons to each? Which would you guys recommend.

Going SC, what auxillery parts would you guys suggest? FPR? Any gaskets? If I was hoping to do similar and use a 9psi pulley would it require extras? What type of EMS or piggybacks would you guys suggest?

Thanks again!

The differance between Comptech and Vortech are minimal. The biggest differance is in the installation, Vortech requires you to drill and tap the pan, where Comptech sends you a fitting that goes into the drail hole. There are other differances, but in the end they will both make good power, and take around the same to make that power. You can expect 280-300hp from the basic kit, a larger exhaust will help gain you a few more. If you want to go with a larger pulley, you will need atleast and E-manage, but you're better off going AEM EMS. Of course if you go new you are talking around $7000 for the SC, exhaust, and EMS...that leaves you still needing a tune and larger injectors.

If you want good safe power then go SC w/AC and 4.56-4.57 gears. You will get good gains. Now if you are looking to have a S that destroys V8's, then you will want to go turbo, but be aware that with a turbo, there is a greater chance to have problems and turbo boost is addicting. I started with 7psi, then 9, then 13, then 15, and now 16psi. And next month I plan to go with 25-30psi with a bigger turbo .

Check out my Ultimate Racing for sale thread ----> https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...0&#entry6430905

The only things needed to complete the kit are BOV, intercooler and piping, injectors, and oil filter relocation kit. Probably another $1500-2000 to complete and a very good kit to start with. Let me know if interested.
