the % numbers you show are those the thermo efficiency

77% compressor efficiency is out standing.

Why?? The reason why a turbo is so much more efficient than a supercharger is due to the waste heat recovery effect. The turbine wheel converts heat normally wasted out the exhaust into power used to drive the compressor wheel and create boost and more mass flow.

The further downstream you go in the exhaust path, the less energy is available in the flow stream to drive the turbine wheel, PERIOD. This is due to heat loss through the walls of the exhaust pipe. Now you can minimize the heat loss by ceramic coating the inside of the exhaust pipes, but you will always have less energy in the exhaust flow stream the further you are downstream from the head.

This means at least one step down in turbine size to match the lower exhaust energy available downstream. PLUS at least another step or two down in turbine size to minimize spoolup time with the super long piping lengths.

Of course this tiny turbine limits you to a smaller compressor wheel as well. This follows because less energy to drive the turbine wheel means less power to turn the compressor wheel. This smaller compressor wheel makes less boost pressure and less mass flow. So this system can not make as much power as a conventional system.

Why go to all the extra trouble and live with so many design compromises? Just to get less power than a conventional system!

Hey,

I live in Provo/Orem area and frequent the shop often. Its a pretty good idea and if you are just looking for some more power, at a good price then STS is something to look into. The boost response is not that bad, but throttle responce is slower then a normal manifold set up. Really this is a good idea for someone looking to go turbo that wants to run low boost and save some $$$ doing it, or for someone who has a car where a normal manifold set-up is not a option. PM me if you guys wanna know more about the shop or anything.

I can only imagine how laggy that must be, throttle response must be horrible.

ive tuned a couple of domestics with the sts kits and to my surprise the lag was minamal, no more than a regular setup, on a t67 on a lt1 camaro i made 587rwhp on 10 psi and chare temps were arround 98 deg f with ambient of 82 deg f full boost by 3000 rpm, id love to try out this kinda setup on a small displacement motor.

Some get cars to drive them..some buy a cheap turbo kit just for the BOV sound...some turn their classy interior into KITT and some want a rear mounted twin turbo kit only to be able to say they have it and hope to get some points on the next country-side car-show..period
