digital camera settings help needed
It sounds like you need to upgrade your PC before you commit to a camera with more pixels. All you really need is a new motherboard and chip, a high-end graphics card with on-board RAM and as much system RAM as you can get. Thankfully RAM is cheap right now. At least you'll be able to exploit the full potential of the camera you have at the moment. I have 500mb of DDR RAM in my motherboard and I have no problems at all, even with very large images.
I know!.... money money money!

the evaluation software from paint shop pro is the full version, which they give you for 30 days (downloaded from the site above).
looks pretty good, especially for the price (a small fraction of the photoshop software)
after rebates, the paint shop pro can be purchased for less than $50, while the photoshop is more like $400 (but they do allow a substantial discount for "students").

the photo editing software that came with my camera is extremely limited as compared to the paint shop pro...
will try photoshop next.
anyone know of a good review of the various photo editing software packages?

There is a consumer level version of Photoshop called Photoshop Elements. I have no clue how this compares to Paint Shop Pro, but I have a copy (came with a scanner) and am pretty happy with it for my limited needs.

I have been using Paint Shop Pro for a few years now and can atest to the fact that it is easy to learn and use and has nice tools like scratch fixer. Just highlight a section and click to fix imperfections.
Adobe Photo Shop is only necessary for graphic artists .

Wanabe,
I understand where you're at. I went the digital camcorder route and wound up with a new computer with 512MB RAM and 100GB of disk space, only to find out that my video editing software wouldn't do what I wanted it to do. Try working with 1 1/2 hours of video to edit. AAAAHHHH!
I'm waiting for a wonderful digital Nikon SLR with replaceable lenses. I have a 19mm wide angle lense for my 35mm SLR's and would want something comparable for a digital camera. My favorite camera is a small manual 35mm that has a Tokina 28-105mm, f1.4 lens on it. It takes awesome pictures.
Hang in there, your digital film is cheap.

Thanks. Truth is, I'm struggling to keep up with the way photography is changing, just like everyone else.
