no the VSA was still ON. but it wasnt the VSA's fault, but mine due to wreckless driving...speeding. if anything the VSA helped the accidents outcome to be less crucial.

If you can get another S, I think you should. This time around you will not be as careless and I dont think this situation would repeat itself.
If you do end up in another S you should go to some autocross events or even take some driving school courses
