Mid 70's BMW 2002 restoration project...

08 Base coat is down
I hemmed and hawed over the color quite a bit on this thing. On the one hand, I want it to be classy, so nothing outrageous or over-saturated. Also, if I decide to put graphics on it later down the line (I will), the colors will need to work.
I ended up choosing a more conservative approach to the color. After all, it ain't a SEMA Civic or anything like that. The theory is that the actual paint will be on the simple side, but the graphics will give it all the "pop" it needs to turn more heads.
The first base coat is a titanium hue, there's a tiny bit of yellow in it which should come out later.
Stay tuned.

09 Second tone added
Masked off the bottom half of the car and sprayed the top half with a dark steel color. Steel on top, Titanium on the bottom.
Next step is getting the clear coat on.

Are you using any PS or just stricty AI?
Bastard caught me.
My goal was to strictly use AI. Not only that, but I don't want to use any gradients or blurs, just simple(!) vector work.
However, I'm importing the various "stages" into photoshop where the border/frame and watermark is all set up. (Plus, my AI artboard is littered with various parts, etc. so it's neater to import into PSD.)
When I imported the last "photo" into PSD, just for kicks I thought I'd see what it would look like if I airbrushed over some of the "masking." It looked more interesting, so I just left it. I figure it's okay if I break a rule considering it's just one of the "process" photos, and the final won't have any gradients or blurs, just basic stroke and fill.
Also, I let it slide 'cause I know if I wanted to, I could replicate the look in Illustrator, it'd just be more of a pain in the ass.
But, from here on out, no more, I promise
And, just for you, here's what it looked like before:
