brand and model of tire has just as much to do with the amount of stretch as the width of the tire and rim. my st115's stretched a hell of a lot more than the same size fk452's.

Which is why I ran 225/45's on the back of my RPF1's. And now the new owner is getting flamed on his thread for it

For those that don't understand the bashing; you are degrading the performance of a performance/sports car. Even though it's not my car, I get very irritated and feel bad for an S2000 when I see it's wheel width's plus sized, and it's tire skinnier than stock or the same width. It's stupid. You're decreasing the contact patch and putting added stress on the tire sidewalls. The next big fad will be getting bigger heavier mufflers and smaller dia. piping. I just don't get it. Why is it cool to decrease the handling and dynamics of a sports car but if you were to reduce the power out put by 20-30whp, the same people supporting the stretched tire look would be calling you stupid and lame.

Adding just springs or less than $1500 coilovers to an S2000 is the same thing to me. I understand not everyone tracks their S2000, or even drives it hard, but going for just bling or looks is pretty fairy to me. I bet I could make a living off making sub $1000 full titanium exhausts systems with 40mm piping for these clowns.

Less performance but bigger wheel lips and more titanium is the new cool. I guess 2F&2F has won the heart of import tuning enthusiasts.

That looks stupid and dangerous. Not to mention you can easily ruin your wheels hitting a pot hole.

I didn't mean for my opinion to hurt your feelings. Feel free to make your car slower than mine.

Sure it's degrading the performance of a performance/sports car. But on the street, are you really pushing the car 10/10th's to even notice a difference? NO.

The main reason guys run low offset is for looks. They want it to be flush with the fender. If it looks good to them, then more power to them! I see no problem if I have a street set of wheels where the offset is low and the tires are slightly stretched, yet I also retain my track set of wheels/tire combo.

What makes performance worse than stretching is the brand/model tire you run. If you run a crap brand/model tire, then it's going handle worse than a highly rated tire that's stretched a bit.

Like I said earlier, my 205/50/16 handled significantly better than my 235/40/17 tire.

I understand exactly what your saying, but if I have my car set up with max tire width/brand, I do drive that set up on some back/empty/winding roads at 7/10ths or 8/10ths, if I switch from the 235's to 205's, my old 8/10ths is now my new 10/10ths, not worth it to me.

I also agree on the tire brand/model/compound remark. You had crappy 235's, replaced them with nice 205's, imagine how awesome the car would be if you bought the nice tires in 235's or 245's. Again, if you're sacrificing tire quality or width because you over spent on wider/low offset wheels, you're a performance poser IMO. Again just my opinion, if your feelings are hurt, don't post on a public forum. My opinions are just that, and I realize everyones tastes aren't the same as mine. I'm just saying that I'm a huge believer in enjoying the car from the driver seat, not the ohhhh's and awwwwwwws from car show goers and the general public. I build my car to please myself while driving it, not the people that see me stuck in traffic being miserable.

Believe me, my feelings are not hurt. If you got that impression than I find that funny.

I'm just stating my opinion and you are stating yours. Nothing wrong with that.

But judging from your logic, we should all sell our S2K's and get something that is CHEAP, looks ugly, and build it up to make it rape every car out there. To you it's 100% all about performance right?

First off, the feelings thing wasn't meant to be directed right at you. You seem pretty knowlegable and easy to talk to. Others, not so much.

It does seem like I'm coming off in the 100% performance mods FTW mindset, but mind you, my most recent thread involved helping me decide on my next wheel color.

I guess my biggest thing is that I frown upon people that mod their car's for looks while sacrificing performance. The best performance mod you can make to any car no matter what type of racing you do is weight reduction, followed by tire width/compound tuning. I feel like if you skimp on either of these than you're lacking what it is to be a performance car tuner.
