AP1 to AP2 transmission parts list
So I've got a 2000 AP1 with 120k. Replaced tranny fluid with Redline MTL, replaced motor/tranny mounts and my transmission still pops out of 4th gear (used to pop out of 3rd, 4th and 5th). It only happens when there's nearly zero load on the drivetrain, never under load. I don't want to tinker anymore and am ready to swap in an AP2 transmission.
I've been searching for a while and can't seem to verify if I really only need to swap the output flange or if the slave cylinder/thowout bearing/clutch disc/hub vary at all. This car is mostly a DD with auto-x and HPDEs throughout the warmer months. I will be going with ITBs and possibly a mild stroker in the next couple years as the engine is starting to accumulate mileage, so as far as clutch hp/tq my requirements are small. Any recommendations on clutch kits and whether or not a LTW flywheel is worth it? I've had them before on BMWs and don't mind the transmission chatter.
Haven't been able to find any solid information as far as which years the AP2 transmissions might differ, I know some still suffer from popping out of gears (05 seems to come up often) but I'm guessing the newest model year with the lowest mileage will be my best bet?
Any and all advice will be much appreciated. Can't stand having a car apart and realizing something doesn't match or line up and needing to wait on another part.
BTW, I've owned a couple Porsches and BMWs, nothing shifts like this S2k. Yes it's popping out of gear but when wringing it's neck properly it sure is a joy. I can't believe how horrible my 987 S's and E39 M5's shifters felt compared to this high mileage machine. I don't think I can ever go back honestly.

You have to swap the output flange and maybe some of the sensor brackets. Everything else is plug and play.
04/05 transmissions suffer from a second gear pop out if the use has ever ground the gears from 1 to 2. There was a TSB for it. 06+ don't have any problems that I know of.
OEM clutch / bearing and ACT pressure plate is the way to go. It can handle up to about 350 HP. The AP1 flywheel is light enough so I'd resurface it and put it back in the car.
