The stock intake performs better than any other intake out there, AND ITS ABSOLUTELY FREE

Save your money for something that will actually make a difference. Despite what you read the 'significant' gas mileage decrease is not true, and neither is the shifting ALOT more.

Get some 4.44 gears, very mild but will definately give you much more acceleration. You might lose 1-2mpg. Tons of people daily driver with aftermarket gears. Even some with the 4.77's which some consider to be too extreme and most people with them dont have a problem.

If you dont want that then at least save for an exhaust, or wheels or anything. Buy a K&N filter and youll be good to go

Man, so many options. Once I get my feet planted on my next mod, a "better" one comes my way. Don't get me wrong, the 4.44 sounds good but I just don't know. Any brands you suggest? I want to look into these a little more.

I think the best set-up is a K&N FIPK(~$220 on ebay) + a AUT Plate (~$100)

K and N seals up with the hood and the AUt feeds cold air in to it

You gotta understand what Honda has done here. What other 2 liter naturally aspirated engine can produce 240hp like what our engine can. The only way for Honda to do that was to have everything pretty much tuned to the max. Im sure if there was a better design that could have given the S2000 more power, they wouldve made it like that. You can spend 3 grand on intake/header/exhaust and you will still only get about 10whp which you will NOT feel. Honda has this engine dialed in so perfectly its not easy to get power out of. Most modifications will get you very minimal gains or in some cases cause you to lose power.

Most people will argue that bolt-ons are pointless because they somewhat are. But sometimes its just the fun of modifying the car and having some unique-ness to it can justify the amount of money you paid for your intake.

One good thing about buying an intake is the lovely sound, but again, thats pretty much all you pay for. The last thing I wanna do is discourage you from modifying your car. And it does seem that your pretty new around here. So just try and reading up some more to see if an intake is really what you wanna spend your money on.

And as for the gears, www.hardtopguy.com sells them. Very reputable and awesome service. They are not cheap though. He will build you a new differential with the gears already installed for $1000 + $1000 core fee. So when you get his differential, just swap them, send your stock differential back and he will refund you the $1000 core fee. Or just order the gears $350 and have a shop install them. They will give you a more torquey feeling down low, exactly what the s2k is missing

triumph87-

You basically read my mind. This is exactly what I was thinking about doing. Sounds like a great plan too. This is most likely my new route as far getting a new intake goes.

gbmurderer13-

I think what you said about Honda dialing in the engine very well is very true. After all (correct me if I am wrong) doesn't the S2000 have the most horsepower per liter of any car? The gear setup sounds good but I am still a little confused. Why would you even need to get a new diffential done with the gears for $1000 when you can jsut et the gears for $350? Is there something special about his differential or does it cost a lot to have the installation done?

Thanks.

It's just an intake. I loved my K&N FIPK, it gave VTEC such a more pronounced sound and I could actually feel a difference with throttle response surprisingly.

You have to be out of your mind to pay anything more than $300 for an intake. The only reason I don't have the K&N FIPK anymore is because I replaced it with a supercharger.

Yeah, I am really looking into increasing throttle respongse. That is waht I want most from an intake and I have only heard about good things about K&N. Good price too.

You can buy gears for like $250 but the installation is tricky and does cost a decent amount to be put in. Also need to make sure you can find a reliable place to install them in your diff for you.
Intake, you won't really get any real gains.
I just bought some 4.77 gears already installed for $900 from hardtopguy. Gears are for sure the best bang for the buck out there. 4.77's are the equvilant to 32 more whp at every rpm. 16% more power. It does not actually give you more power but it is a torque multiplier so gives the feel.
Everyone I have talked to about these gears have said that it really is a night and day difference with them and takes away the low end lack of power feel of the car.
I have a K&N fipk. Nice intake, sounds great, frees up space in the engine bay, maybe a hp or two, but I wouldn't buy any intake thinking your going to notice a difference in power.
If you want sound, take the lid of your stock intake. Gives it a real nice CAI sound.
If you want better response, pop your hood and tighten (if needed) your throttle cable. Don't know what year you have so might not apply.

I was looking into the gears from hardtopguy.com and they look good. Do you know if he actually makes the gears himself or are they from another company? And is it necessary to get the gears Cryo treated? What are the benefits? I have an AP2 so no cable throttle for me.

Thanks for your input.
