like i said earlier just spend as little money as possible (cars are not assets, they are depreciating liabilities).
if you want to put some money into your car i'd say either 4.44 gears or hondata reflash. if you're really set on an intake i'd go with k&n fipk + cooling plate like you mentioned above.
It's louder than stock at WOT, isolated from engine compartment heat, yet sits high in the engine bay. Also, it's around 350. Add another 50 for AFE re-useable filter shipped to your door if you don't like the stupid foam filter (which I hate btw).
Best sound is OEM without lid, but too much heat soak in summer. Mugen is ridiculously expensive, same goes for J's Racing. AEM is good price, but I do drive through a lot of rain and do no wish to risk hydrolock issue. Had an AEM in my Prelude before, and the filter would get quite wet every time I drive in heavy rain. Although I've never gotten hydrolocked, I would much pretty not to have to worry about that.
I have the K&N replacement filter on order... should be here tomorrow or the next day. I've read a lot of varying opionions about it but I will provide my feedback once I get it on there. Can't really go wrong for $50, or twice the price of a oem filter.
Since, no one has posted up their K&N direct replacement... here is it, definately an upgrade over stock aestetically. Performance wise... I'm about to go find out
slight improvement I suppose... if stock was 6/10, adding this filter made the acceleration/ throttle response, sound 7/10. definately not comparable to a CAI but if you want to retain the stock air box and look then it's worth it.
