For the rears, you can also use a 3/8" socket wrench head, or a large screwdriver with the blade positioned in one of the slots offset from the piston center.
on a side note, VW rear brakes suck ass. to compress the piston, you have to turn it and push on it at the same time. had to rent the tools from autozone, they are free, to make it work. theres a nice kit they have. not needed for a honda, but for stupid vw, NEEDED.
