DIY floor mat protectors

I looked for something exactly like this and couldn't find anything. Wish I had known about this! Its perfect!
Usually I am really good at googling to find the obscure, but somehow missed this. I would have used this if instead of my home grown solution.
But about my solution, I still haven't found anything to hold it in place, but its really not an issue. If I'm careful with my feet when getting in and out it stays put.
It wasn't hard to make and works well.

I will keep it in mind.
I like the vinyl patch solution, but I am not certain how to attach it to the mat. The site says to glue it, but that feels awful permanent and it seems as though it would raise the profile. At 6’5” I’m not willing to give up any room. Even a quarter inch.
In the meantime, my mat has worn down to the rubber on a part about 4mm x 6mm. I glued a piece of ballistic fabric to protect the exposed rubber from further wear. Hopefully it will buy me some time.

The dimensions for those vinyl heel guards list the thickness as .05 inch. Thats less than 1/16". Surely you can spare that!

That’s good reading by you. I’ll go ahead and measure up what size I want to to go with. Not certain if I should just get it to cover the heel part for the clutch or also go for the gas as well. I’ll also order a couple different shades of red to see what works. I’ll post photos and results as they come up.

So the vinyl patch arrived. Even the mini size is more than big enough to cover the worn area. My biggest issue right now is psyching myself up to apply the patch, it is a pretty permanent solution, that said, the mat is already worn, so I have nothing to lose. I’ll post pictures soon.

How does it attach to mat? Glue or something? Maybe there is a way to temp mount to try it out. It wouldn't last as long or stay in place as well, but you don't need it to as a test.
If the mat already has a heal hole, you can't make it worse with adding this guard, right?

Eager to hear how it works out! Also which color red was the one that worked (looks like a good match!)

I went with the regular red color. I’m now giving the edges some extra shots of glue so they don’t catch when I exit the car or work the pedals. At this point though I’m really happy.

After a long weekend in the mountains, I am happy with the results. It looks decent, and works well. Be certain to test where you want it placed to make sure it won’t catch on the edges when operating the pedals.
I put in 600 miles of mountain driving and it did a great job. I’m not certain how durable the pad is, but it is a cost effective solution compared to buying new mats that will wear in the same way. I will still buy an extra mat, but I’ll use the patched one for regular driving.
