Harnesses without a roll cage?

Having a proper race seat and harnesses is a definite performance advantage for driving. If you have ever hopped between two otherwise similar cars, but one had a harness and race seat while the other had just street seat and restraints, you'll know what I'm talking about.
And these setups are more than strong enough to hold you in place under the 1-1.5 G loads you might see in performance driving. But the loads you might see in a crash are much, much higher than that.

That was the main reason I moved to a Recaro. I don't weigh enough to fill out the stock seats and slid too much when I was running DE. I feel I was more likely to lose control of the car during a high speed corner in the stock equipment (bracing my knees against the door and tranny tunnel while trying to corner/heeltoe and being unable to tell if it's my butt or the rear wheels sliding is going to increase the likelihood that I'll need the restraints
) so I installed the harness and Recaro. But, again, I spent a good amount of time researching the safety factors involved and concluded that (and this is the important part) FOR MYSELF, given MY situation (height, etc), I was comfortable with moving to the Recaro/harness without a 4-pt rollbar for my passenger to bean their head against during the >99% of non-rollover accidents.Granted, as soon as I get enough of a break to do so (now that I have a regular passenger) I'll be installing a Recaro on the passenger side, along with a custom roll bar (and removing the stock roll hoops).
