Default HID question?

So i installed new hid bulbs, theyre kelvin 12k bulbs, bought them off JDMtoy.com and just the other night after about an hour of cruising both headlights went out. i turned the headlight system all the way off and back on and the lights came back on. Then about 15mins later just the right side went out, turned off the headlights, turned them back on and they worked again.....then about 20 mins or so the left side went out....repeated same procedure(turn off then on and they work). Also if i have my brights on the HIDs will turn off sometimes as well.

Just wondering if anyone knows the cause or has had a similar problem....is it just because there the 12k bulbs??? are they overheating? drawing to much voltage? do i need to use bulb grease or w.e its called??

Thanks s2ki
Jim

**p.s. ive had 8k bulbs in there before and they never used to do this....just recently with the new 12k bulbs.**

could be bad bulbs, from my experience with HID's when that starts to happen or failure to ignite once you turn them on, the bulb is bad or on its ways out. but just in case double check your connections and take it from there, and i would keep any and all oils/grease away from the bulb. touching the bulb or exposing the bulb to oils can cause premature failure. if you are going to use electric grease be sure to avoid touching the bulb itself because i have seen bulbs literally blow from people touching them and then ur left to go fishing for glass in the housing and trying to clean up a smokey lense

your idea of the bulb possibly causing too much heat could be true as well but i doubt it because i installed 12k's on a buddy's evo 8 and hes been riding on those without an issue for years now and theyr not an after market kit, its just the bulbs added to his oem system. but i dunno it could be that. the bulbs themselves shouldnt draw that much more than the factory units, they just burn at a higher temp giving off a brighter light

hope this helps

whys that??? sorry im not to bright when it comes to light ;P

But do you think that its just overloading or something of that nature..
Like tonight, bulb only went out once....rest off the night perfectly fine.

Do you think having the right side running light(amber side light) bulb being burnt out can effect this??? and if 12k is too much id rather take them out and replace with my old 8k bulbs, i never had a problem with them....i just dont want to burn out my balasts or hid system from these stupid things....dont feel like shelling out a couple grand x(

Im just curious, i dont know if i want to bring it to honda just for them to tell me nothings wrong..

Oh and is it safe to use bulb grease on the CONNECTION part of the bulb being a hid bulb i wouldnt know if it effect it in any way (not the glass its self, i know that lol)

I dont think Kelvin output would be a problem if you got the properly rated wattage. I'm not sure what OEM wattage rating is, but I know HID kits range from 35W to 65W+. If you got too high of a wattage rating HID, it will probably overtax the OEM ballasts = heat up, shut down.
