Import Tuner
Read the entire thread for responses! :-) I really enjoyed reading your response to the article, hadwndst. I do hope you will be getting a response soon from Carter via e-mail. I commend Tan greatly for allowing you the privilege to go to Import Tuner's anniversary celebration. That really does show a lot of a person. Sorry Carter wasn't able to spend more time with you to discuss your opinion on his article, but as you stated before, he is a busy man.
Times are very tough as you all are aware. Several magazines that you loved or despised have been or will be put out to pasture. The company that puts out this magazine and others are in dire financial consequence unfortunately.

Times are tough but they are still spending like they are not. I seen pictures of the bash they held. Its sad to see these beloved magazines go but most magazines lost the roots they came from.
The last car i remember that had one off parts that actually worked for a reason other than to look cool and have some JDM parts to nail a mag cover. That was about a year and a half ago and it was a 200sx of all cars. I have since then lost all intrest in most magazines since they have gone to crap.
Anyway i have had countless USDM and JDM vehicles. I recently sold my 1991 RX-7 T-2 which i had for many years. I had many problems trying to ship products over here because of crazy inflation sometimes upward of 200% plus shipping. I would not even start on shipping which is just plain stupid at times. I have purchased the parts but alot of the time i went to companies like Racing beat or pineapple racing because of same parts were the same quality and most of the time cheaper. Now i also have had alot of problems with both JDM and knock off parts such as an a turbo manifolds that kept cracking! I ended up making my own for about 140 bucks and tig welded it myself and what do you know it still works after 30k + of hard driving.
Anyway what i hope for with these magazine giants it so quit hating these so called knock off companies. I still remember when Megan racing was considered a knock off company with its headers. Now they seem to have blossomed and started to move out with more products that rival JDM manufactures. In my view a diverse market in one thats not very diverse is the best thing for it. Now dont get my wrong because some of these buisnesses are shady or just are down right horrible with how they handle things from coustomer treatment all they way to parts actually fitting but a diverse market will lead to competition other than in japan and hopefully make the US aftermarket a more reliable/cheaper alternitave.

I appologise in advance if this has been said already and if it's been replied to also, but 2 things stand out to me
1) Your deal with the devil comments are very true, they're words and convictions lie in 2 different places
2) A "perfectly good replica" as OP states is, in fact, illegal. As soon as a work of art or original piece of work is created it is copyrighted. No one can re-produce or retail copyrighted items without the consent of the original copyright owner. It is illegal for companies in most countries, particularly America, to re-produce parts from Japan and retail them. It is illegal under various treaties, trade agreements and conventions - notably the Berne Convention which protects copyrights in signatory countries.
It sickens me to see sponsors here being able to sell 'replica' or 'styled' parts which are, as above, illegal. There's no 2-ways about it. Your forum leaders need to take a stance here and clamp down on the retail of these items.
It doesn't start with a magazine, it starts here, with you, now.

As far as legality is concerned, if my memory serves me correctly, the burden, unfortunately falls on the original manufacturer. Which as we all know can be a costly route when preserving originality of design.
The more I try and get my head around this, the more I see modifications or slight variations of the same design/ part.
I am looking forward to what PWJDM has in store for the S2000 community. I hope they don't get lost in the rush to make parts for Godzilla. Remember the little guys Steve.

what if that design wasn't from a direct mold and it was from a sketch and there is only a millimeters of difference? (coincidence)
