I don't think the issue is how fast it deploys as much as it is how long it stays inflated. If the driver is closer, his carcus will arrive at the air bag sooner, so it doesn't need to stay inflated as long as it would if the driver is farther away.

anyways, I guess if the sensor is eliminated, the computer is going to show a fault and cancel airbag deployment all together?
I believe the air bag will work fin if you tie wrap the air bag sensor to the aftermarket rails.

tie wrap the airbag sensor to the aftermarket rails? I'm now interested in what the sensor looks like. Since the stock seat isn't even electronically adjustable, I think this sensor isn't too sophisticated.

I've only read about it here, so I don't really know much about the sensor. My guess is that it is more of a magnetic switch than a sensor. If you do a search for "seat rail air bag", you should find some threads about it.

I forgot to add a few preferences:
1. I would like to still use the storage compartment (under 23" shoulder bolster?)
Well I was going to recommend the Racetech seats

If you are really tracking the car and you want to be the safest you can be you need to either get a FIA seat or mount your seat so it complies with FIA rules

Racetech 4009WHR W=wide HR= Head Restraint "Halo"
