Default MaxiTrip Computer

So I needed to scan for DTC after a flashing CEL, and instead of picking up an OBD reader I decided to go with the MaxiTrip Computer since it performs code-reader (and erase) functions, along with many more.

Price: $99 (Locally, but also available at various places online)

Manufacturer link: http://www.auteltech.com/4in1.htm

I'll come back and provide some additional information about it's performance and accuracy after I've used it for a little while and had it tracking things like fuel consumption, etc.

It has connections for the RJ45 connector on the side and the rear (your choice, for more mounting & placement options), and it connects to the ODBII port. About 20 seconds after vehicle shutdown it turns itself off, backlight and display items - so you can leave it plugged in all the time, should you choose.

I just need to find a good mounting point for it, as it blocks half the speedo and the dash warning lights when mounted on the steering column.

Here's the info from the manufacturer site:

MaxiTrip™ TP100

This innovative 4-in-one automotive computer from Autel is exactly what is needed for real-time engine monitoring, failure prevention and trip tracking. The compact and intelligent gadget includes 4 most useful modes: trip computer, digital gauges, scan tool and vehicle black box.

Trip Computer

The MaxiTrip™ TP100 is a compact automotive computer designed to monitor information about your vehicle in real time. It will display such useful information as average trip MPG, tank MPG, average speed per trip, average speed per tank of gas, miles to empty, miles driven on tank, and more.
● Maximum Speed ● Average Speed ● Driving Time
● Driving Distance ● Fuel Used ● Trip Fuel Economy
● Distance to Empty ● Time to Empty ● Fuel to Empty

Digital Gauges

The MaxiTrip™ TP100 can be configured to measure and monitor up to four different sets of information simultaneously, providing real-time engine performance analysis, allowing you to adjust driving behavior and save gas.
● Vehicle Speed (MPH)
● Manifold Pressure
● Battery Voltage
● Engine Load
● Coolant Temperature
● Throttle Position
● Intake Air Temperature
● Ignition Timing
● Engine Speed (RPM)
● Closed/Open Loop
● Water Temperature

Scan Tool

The MaxiTrip™ TP100 will also work as a scan tool that is able to help you troubleshoot problems of all OBD2/EOBD compliant vehicles.
● Works with all 1996 and later OBDII compliant vehicles
● Reads & clears trouble codes
● Easily determines the cause of the “Check Engine Light ( MIL)”
● Turns off Check Engine Light (MIL), and resets monitors
● Views freeze frame data
● Displays monitor and I/M readiness status(emissions)
● Retrieves vehicle information (VIN, CIN and CVN)

Vehicle Black Box

The MaxiTrip™ TP100 will be able to save up to 300 hours of your driving data. It works as a vehicle black box to store every trip you make. The information it records includes:
● Time and date for each trip
● Distance travelled each trip
● Maximum speed during trip
● Time overspeed
● Number of times of deceleration limit exceeded during trip
● Number of times of acceleration limit exceeded during trip
● Hard accelerations and braking

Have you actually used this yet? I suspect that some of these features may not be supported for the S2000. For example, miles to empty may not be supported. If they are supported, I'll be really surprised if they are accurate.

Yep, I've used it on a Camry and confirmed, and briefly used in on the S.

It does the math using various sensors that are available, along with saved information that you input about engine size, fuel type, tank size, etc. It uses current speed, rate of acceleration, and it gets smarter the more times you tell it you've just filled the tank as it can come up with better trends and make better predictions.

But it does warn that you shouldn't treat its word as gospel when you're very low on fuel.

There are many ways to calculate fuel economy, but the OBDII standard isn't so specific that all manufacturers provide the same data via OBDII. What works on a Toyota may not work on a Honda. I don't think I've ever seen anything directly related to fuel on the list of Honda's OBDII parameters (Fuel Level, Fuel Pressure, Injector Pulse Width, etc.). If the device is calculating it based solely on throttle position and manifold pressure, then I wouldn't expect it to very be accurate at all.
