My least favorite mod would be the walbro fuel pump
I installed this while I was replacing my old convertible top with a new one. I didn't know if I would want to add FI in the future, so I installed the pump thinking it would be as quiet as the stock one. I was extremely wrong. I did a roadtrip of 2,000 miles, and as I was driving, I could hear the pump screaming over my exhaust (T1R-70 EM Sparrow). I thought it was going to die. When I pulled in for my first fuel up, The guy at the pump next to me thought there was something wrong with my car. I told him I was using the fuel pump from a F-16 just for fun.
Anyway, don't install that pump unless you really need to. It ruined the driving experience of my roadtrip with its constant whining. I've done everything I can to muffle it (powered it directly from the battery, dynamat, heavy blanket on top of everything else), I still hear it and passengers always comment on how they think something is wrong with my car.
Worst functional mod, Coastal Metals bumper protector. This thing did protect from scrapes and such, however if you it a parking block or somteing that could/would bend it, your bumper cover wsa fooked.
This was back in the day when NO ONE modded their cars and people tried to keep all parts original with matching VIN tags and such.
Worst aesthetic mod, GP Sports rear valences with AP1 bumper cover, J's Racing diffuser and Mugen SS wing. Sum of all the parts together took away from the total package. The rear end just looked too 'heavy' for the car:
Worst interior mod were the CF dress up pieces from Mastergrade: center console cover, upper portion door panel, and door/step trim. They were the worst fitting, flimsy, and most prone to spider cracking pieces of crappy CF Id eer seen. --No pics.
Worst exterior mod were the version 2 CF side diffusers from AJ-Racing (along side their customer service). I had their version 1, which I loved but sold with all the CF crap listed above. I missed them so I bought the version 2. I was better off buying a pair of downhill skis and mounting them to my car. The CF seemed to be painted on the plastic pieces, the clear coat or epoxy coat was done like horse sh!t, and each side wsa different lengths. --Have to dig for pics.
just a little thing, and not in a mean way or anything. but i read a lot of you guys giving up on your aftermarket catback systems, after not having them on your car for very long. ive had my skunk2 (i know its crap) for about 8 months now the drone does lessen after a while. either that or im just goin deaf.
and setting of car alarms with your loud ass exhaust is one of lifes greatest pleasures, dont complain!
I doubt it lessens much you just get used to it. Same thing happened to me with an old Spugen exhaust. It did not lessen I just got used to the horrible drone!
Never again will I get a crappy droney exhaust for this car!
off topic now: a another good thread to make would be. "thing i wish i got instead" b/c i wish i got "quiet car" or something to quiet the car. or flash pro.
Interestingly, the best way I've found to make an S2000 quiet is a turbo and intercooler because they smother the intake noise. My AP1 is now so much quieter than stock that there are actually times (sitting at idle) when I wonder if it's on. And I can hear the radio and passengers much better on the highway...
I would have to say that my lambourghini doors. As cool as they look they are a constant hassle. Always having to be adjusted and now it starting to mess with my body kit. So...if any one has normal hinges for doors on an 2002 S2000 I would like to know if you want to sell or trade them I would like to contact you,
Photos of what I believe is the World's fastest S2000 before I bought all the parts I shouldn't have bought. (See my previous post, a page ago, for a listing of those mistakes.) Bone stock is when it went the fastest. BTW the silver "jug" in that one photo is the fire system not NOS. The speed is done on gasoline and is ALL motor. No Jug. No hairdryer. No Nitro. Oh yeah, 265.860 mph in case you were wonderin'.
i wish i had the technical know how to build something like that.
Awsome dude, you are an s2ki hero.
strap a camera to it if you ever make another run on the flats.
