Default Shift Knob replacement

Im trying to change the shift knob on my 03 S2000. I tried just twisting the old one off, but am afraid im going to snap or bend something I dont want to. Am I missing a step? I read somewhere something about a bolt...but I dont see a bolt holding it on. The instructions that came with the new knob say "remove old knob"...thanks!!

Any Ideas?

There should be a lock nut underneath it. it will loose in the opposite direction.

AFAIK, there are no bolts securing the stock ap1 shiftknob. i changed mine 3 times already.. the first one was really tricky coz its really held on tight, but it wont break dont worry

There is a lock nut under all OEM Knobs, for all years. Without exception. it requires a 14mm open-end wrench and you turn it to the right to loosen it from the knob.

Only if the knob was removed and the nut not reinstalled would a nut not be there.
